Orioles activate Adley Rutschman from 7-day IL

Rutschman drove in a pair of runs in his second game back from the 7-day concussion injured list, and he’ll get a breather Tuesday; something that will likely happen more consistently to make sure the 28-year-old is fresh after the head injury. Samuel Basallo will handle backstop duties for Tuesday’s game in Rutschman’s absence.

Rutschman delivered a pair of sacrifice fly’s to supply all of Baltimore’s offense in a low-scoring affair at Camden Yards until Chicago pulled away in the final frame. The 28-year-old backstop has gone 1-for-5 in a pair of contests since returning from a concussion.

Rutschman will miss at least a week because of Colt Emerson’s hideous throw that hit him on the helmet as he was running to first base in Thursday’s game. Samuel Basallo and Sam Huff will likely platoon behind the plate for Baltimore.

Rutschman will get some extra time off to rest with Samuel Basallo handling the catching duties in this one. The 28-year-old backstop made his return behind the dish during Friday’s series opener after missing a pair of games with left hamstring tightness earlier this week.

Rutschman missed the previous three contests due to a lingering hamstring issue. He’s serving as the team’s designated hitter and will bat third against Mariners’ right-hander Bryan Woo on Thursday evening in Baltimore.

The 28-year-old backstop has sat out two consecutive games due to a lingering hamstring issue. It sounds like he’s trending in the right direction and won’t require a trip to the injured list.

This will be the third straight game that both players miss. As of now, there is no indication that either one of them will need to go on the injured list, but that could change if these injuries linger. Sam Huff will catch and bat ninth on Wednesday, while Taylor Ward will be the DH, and Tyler O’Neill will play right field and bat eighth.

There’s no indication he’ll require a trip to the injured list at this time. Basallo will receive some extra time off following his involvement in a home-plate collision during Sunday’s series finale against the Blue Jays that led to his early exit from the contest. The 21-year-old former top prospect also missed time earlier in the series with an abdominal issue. There’s a lot to unpack here.
