Grant Taylor fires two scoreless to net win vs. O’s

Noel was in Orioles camp as a non-roster invitee this spring after being cut loose by the Guardians last offseason. The power-hitting 25-year-old hit .121 (13-for-107) with three homers in 30 games for Triple-A Norfolk before getting hurt in late May. There’s probably an organization out there willing to bring him in as a zero-risk reclamation project.

Fried returns to New York’s rotation for the nightcap of Wednesday’s twin bill against the Pirates following a 10-week absence due to a bone bruise in his elbow. The 32-year-old fantasy ace posted a strong 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 50/19 K/BB ratio across 61 2/3 innings prior to hitting the shelf in mid-May. He’s likely to be limited to roughly 60 pitches in his return from the injured list since that was the number he was slated to throw in a minor league rehab start before the Yankees decided to bring him back instead. His return should provide a massive lift for fantasy managers heading into the final two months.

Castro requires a trip back to the minors to free up a spot on New York’s roster for ace Max Fried to return from the injured list for the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against Pittsburgh. The 27-year-old has allowed one run over 2 1/3 innings in the big leagues this season.

Okamoto has been one of the few bright spots in a mostly nightmarish campaign for the Blue Jays. It’s his first off day since June 30. It’ll be rookie Sean Keys handling the hot corner in his place.

Piñango is in left field and hitting fifth for Wednesday’s series finale against the division-rival Rays. The 24-year-old old rookie is a bit of a defensive liability, but he’s got some thunder in his bat, which the Blue JHays could certainly use.

Van Eyk returns to Toronto’s low-leverage relief mix just a couple days after being optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. He tossed two scoreless innings against the White Sox in his big-league debut last Friday.

Estrada has allowed just five runs over 9 1/3 innings across four relief outings in the big leagues this season. He’ll be an up-and-down option for Toronto over the final two months.

Clase winds up requiring a trip to the injured list after being scratched from Tuesday’s lineup with foot discomfort. He’s likely facing a multi-week absence since plantar fasciitis can only really be addressed by extended rest.

Vinnie Pasquantino doubled to start the seventh, but it looked like he fell off the bag with the tag applied after an awkward slide into the second. The Giants, though, didn’t get the call, and Perez homered immediately afterwards to knock Landen Roupp out of the game. It was his 317th homer, trying him with George Brett for first place in Royals franchise history. Of course, both Perez and Brett hit all their homers for Kansas City. They’re tied with Adrián González for 142nd place on the all-time MLB list.

In what had been a scoreless game, Lugo allowed a run in the sixth and then two in the seventh, seemingly putting himself in line for a loss. However, the Royals came back with five in the bottom of the seventh and got Lugo his first win since June 19 and fourth in 21 starts this year. He’ll carry a 4.36 ERA into his next start in Minnesota.
