White Sox optioned LHP Tyler Schweitzer to Triple-A Charlotte

Schweitzer was just called up last week and threw four shutout innings on Tuesday, allowing four hits and striking out three. He’ll be sent down to make room for Noah Schultz’s return, but Schweitzer should get another shot over the summer.
Swanson red-hot in 'unfathomable' turnaround
James Schiano highlights Dansby Swanson's offensive surge over the past 13 games with the Cubs, which includes nine homers, 29 RBIs, and a place in the history books.

Francisco Alvarez is not in the Mets’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Braves.

Alvarez has started every game this week either behind the plate or as the designated hitter, so he’ll get a well-deserved breather in this one. Luis Torrens will start behind the dish and bat eighth for the Mets against Braves’ southpaw Martin Perez.

Rays recalled RHP Mason Englert from Triple-A Durham.

The 26-year-old right-hander will start in Sunday’s series finale against the Astros in Houston. It’s unclear if the plan is for him to work as a traditional starter or if he’ll just work a couple of innings as an opener in what will turn into a full bullpen game for the Rays. Englert holds a 3.96 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 19/6 K/BB ratio over 25 frames in 12 appearances with the Rays this season.

Rays optioned RHP Trevor Martin to Triple-A Durham.

Martin has pitched decently in six appearances for the Rays this season, registering a 3.97 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and a 7/4 K/BB ratio across 11 1/3 innings. He made just one appearance during his most recent stint with the big league club though, working a scoreless inning on June 28. Mason Englert was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Mets selected the contract of RHP Guillo Zuñiga from Triple-A Syracuse.

It’s the first trip back to the big leagues for Zuñiga since he made 17 appearances out of the Angels’ bullpen during the 2024 campaign. The 27-year-old righty holds a 3.29 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and an 18/12 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings in 14 appearances in the minor leagues this season. Joey Gerber was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Yankees recalled RHP Angel Chivilli from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Yankees had an opportunity to add a fresh arm to their bullpen after Brendan Beck was optioned out following his start on Saturday, so Chivilli gets another chance to show what he can do at the MLB level. The 23-year-old righty holds a 3.86 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and a 3/3 K/BB ratio over 2 1/3 innings in two appearances with the Yankees this season.

Braves selected the contract of RHP Carlos Carrasco from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Once again Carrasco will join the Braves’ bullpen to add a fresh arm for Sunday’s series finale against the Mets. The 39-year-old righty has posted a 3.68 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 6/1 K/BB ratio over 14 2/3 innings. It’s likely that once he appears in a game, he’ll be designated for assignment and ultimately re-sign on a minor league deal, allowing the cycle to continue.

Braves optioned RHP JR Ritchie to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The 23-year-old hurler was with the Braves for just one game this time around, picking up his first career save with three scoreless innings to finish out a lopsided victory over the Mets on Saturday. Carlos Carrasco was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his place in the Braves’ bullpen on Sunday.

Alec Bohm homered, doubled and walked Saturday in the Phillies’ 6-1 victory over the Royals.

Bohm is batting .273 with 10 homers and 31 RBI in his last 49 games. He’s still not guaranteed to be especially valuable going forward, but with the Phillies committed to hitting him in the middle of the order, he has a legitimate shot at 100 RBI in his final year before free agency.

Jesús Luzardo limited the Royals to one run in six innings and struck out nine in a victory Saturday.

That Luzardo’s bad outings have been particularly bad denied him an All-Star gig, but he’s 7-4 with a 3.75 ERA after tonight, and the Phillies are 12-6 in his starts. He walked none in this one and has a 125/33 K/BB through 103 1/3 innings. He’ll likely make his next start Thursday in Philadelphia.

American League All-Star Michael Wacha gave up four runs and three homers in six innings Saturday in a loss to the Phillies.

Wacha as an All-Star makes a lot of sense if maybe he’s Kansas City’s only representative, but Bobby Witt Jr. is the team’s starting shortstop. Wacha is going to his second All-Star Game anyway, though there seemed to be better picks available. He’s 5-6 with a 3.45 ERA ahead of his final start of the first half against the Mets.
