Luis García Jr. continued his unprecedented power binge in Sunday’s loss to the Pirates, going 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and a stolen base.

Garcia got the Nationals on the board with his 370-foot (99.1-mph EV) two-run shot off of Bubba Chandler in the third inning, pulling the Nationals to within two runs at 4-2. He also singled in the fifth inning and swiped third base before being stranded there. The 26-year-old slugger has crushed nine home runs in his last 12 games and his 16 homers since May 25 are tops in Major League Baseball. For the season, he’s slashing an impressive .282/.313/.561 to go with a career-high 19 home runs, 64 RBI and three stolen bases.

Luis Garcia Jr. went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Cardinals on Monday.

Garcia Jr. is going to like hitting in Yankee Stadium. The 26-year-old has had a breakout season, in part, because he’s pulling the ball in the air more often. That’s going to work well in his new home park. Garcia Jr. now has 24 home runs and 78 RBI on the season.

Luis García Jr. is at first base and hitting third on Monday against the Cardinals.

García will make his Yankees debut batting in the heart of the lineup after being acquired from the Nationals in a trade over the weekend. The 26-year-old’s left-handed swing should fit beautifully in hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium and he’s in the midst of a career year at the dish, posting an .873 OPS with 23 homers in just 374 plate appearances. His fantasy stock increases exponentially with the move to New York, especially with Aaron Judge (rib) and Cody Bellinger (hamstring) on the shelf for a couple weeks.

Yankees acquired 1B Luis García Jr. from the Nationals in exchange for RHP Ben Grable, RHP Yovanny Cruz, RHP Jack Cebert and RHP Jake Bird.

García has been excellent in 2026 with an .873 OPS and 23 homers over his 374 plate appearances. He’ll be in the lineup everyday against right-handers, and the short porch in Yankees Stadium should play well for the 26-year-old. Just keep in mind that he likely won’t play much against southpaws, with Paul Goldschmidt getting those starts against lefties.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Nationals have traded Luis García Jr. to the Yankees.

The Yankees will be send the Nationals four pitchers in exchange for Garcia according to Spencer Nusbaum of the Washington Post: right-handers Ben Grable, Yovanny Cruz, Jack Cebert, and Jake Bird. The 26-year-old has had a breakout season in 2026 with 23 homers and an .873 OPS over 374 plate appearances, and gives the Yankees a needed boost to their lineup. He’s played exclusively first base in 2026, but he’s played both second base and shortstop at times with the Nationals. It seems more likely that he’ll be lining up at the cold corner than those positions up the middle with New York.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees are in discussions to acquire infielder Luis García Jr. from the Nationals.

García was scratched from the Nationals’ lineup on Sunday, presumably as the two sides were getting deeper into discussions. Sherman also notes that Yankees’ Double-A starter Jack Cebert has been included prominently in those discussions. Stay tuned, as when there’s this much smoke, there’s usually fire.

Luis García Jr. was a late scratch from the Nationals’ starting lineup on Sunday.

No word yet on the reason for the late scratch, but the Nationals indicated that he will still be on the bench for the game, so it’s unlikely that it’s an injury situation, though he left Friday’s game due to mild soreness in his right knee. The more likely scenario is that the Nationals are discussing him in trade talks and he could soon be on the move. Stay tuned.

Luis García Jr. was removed from Friday night’s battle against the Braves due to mild soreness in his right knee.

The 26-year-old infielder was pinch-hit for in the seventh inning after experiencing the soreness. It’s not believed to be a major issue and García is currently considered day-to-day.

Luis Garcia Jr. had a monster day at the dish in Thursday’s loss to the Braves, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple, homer and two RBI.

The 26-year-old infielder obliterated an 0-1 curveball from Grant Holmes for a 455-foot (111.1-mph EV) solo shot in the third inning that extended the Nationals’ lead to 2-0. He also delivered an RBI triple in the seventh inning that pulled them to within a run at 5-4. That would be as close as they would get. With his three-hit attack, Garcia is now slashing a healthy .286/.316/.566 with 23 homers, 76 RBI and four swipes on the season.

Luis García Jr. went 2-for-5 and hit his 22nd homer Tuesday as the Nationals topped the Blue Jays 8-6.

García and Dylan Crews went back-to-back in the fourth inning, though it was off different pitchers after CJ Van Eyk replaced Mason Fluharty. The two-run shot for García gave him 73 RBI, tying him for fifth in the majors. He’s already three ahead of his previous career high for 70 RBI in 140 games in 2024.

No surprise with rookie southpaw Mitch Bratt toeing the rubber for Arizona to open the contest. It’ll be Andrés Chaparro getting the nod at the cold corner. García has been the subject of trade rumors recently and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him on the move at the trade deadline since he’s set to reach free agency at the conclusion of next season. It also helps his trade value that he’s launched a career-high 21 homers through 96 games so far.

Moisés Ballesteros was activated by the Angels prior to Tuesday’s game and is in the lineup as a DH.

He’s batting sixth against the Orioles. The decision to designate Jorge Soler for assignment suggests that the Angels are looking at Ballesteros more as a DH than as a catcher, but we’ll see. GM John Mozeliak said Monday that he’d probably catch one game in the series against Baltimore. It sure would be nice to see him at least get the 12 catching appearances he’d need to reach 20 and lock up eligibility for next year.

Angels activated RHP Ben Joyce from the 60-day injured list.

Joyce, who was last seen in the majors 18 months ago, is finally back from shoulder surgery after posting a 5.06 ERA and a 12/8 K/BB in 10 2/3 innings during a rehab stint. He averaged 101.3 mph with his fastball during his Triple-A appearances, so that’s not going to be an issue. Command might be. He’s probably the favorite to lead the Angels in saves the rest of the way, but it might be a bumpy ride, especially for these next few weeks.
