Tawa’s home run was his 10th of the season. He hit a solo shot in the ninth inning to put the Diamondbacks ahead 2-0. Arizona went on to blow that lead in the bottom of the inning only for Tawa to give them a lead with an RBI single in the 10th inning, only for the bullpen to blow it again. He’s now riding a four-game hitting streak and could continue to fill in for Corbin Carroll (back) for another game or two.

Corbin Carroll was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Royals with lower back discomfort.

Carroll was dropped to the fifth spot in Arizona’s lineup over the weekend as his second-half struggles continue. The 26-year-old franchise cornerstone is hitting just .215 with six homers and 11 steals in 48 games since the All-Star break. It’ll be versatile Tim Tawa taking over in right field in his absence. There should be an update on his status following the contest, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Nolan Arenado went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Astros on Sunday.

Arenado’s home run was his 22nd of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Peter Lambert in the third inning. Arenado’s home run was his first since August 22 against the Reds, a span of 12 games. He’s hitting .233 with a .730 OPS and 67 RBI this year.

Arenado’s home run was his 21st of the season. He hit a solo shot off Rhett Lowder in the fourth inning. Arenado continues to find his power stroke as the season goes along. He’s hit 12 home runs since the beginning of July after hitting nine home runs in the first three months of the season. Arenado is hitting .243 with a .768 OPS and 65 RBI.

Arenado put Arizona ahead with a broken-bat single to shallow left field in the 10th inning. The 35-year-old veteran was back at third base and hitting fifth after missing two games with an intercostal strain. It doesn’t appear to be a significant concern moving forward.

Arenado missed the last two games as a result of an abdominal strain suffered Sunday. It’s just his second start as a designated hitter this season. Jose Fernandez is again filling in at third base.

Ketel Marte’s failure to show up to Fenway Park led to Arizona not putting out a lineup until roughly 10 minutes before first pitch. Arenado takes a seat with Jose Fernandez getting an opportunity at the hot corner. There’s a chance he’ll require a trip to the injured list, depending on the results of an MRI on his injured abdomen. There should be a clearer idea of his status at some point soon.

It was a monstrous performance by Merrill, who tripled home two runs in the bottom of the third. He then delivered a two-run homer in the fifth that put San Diego up 7-2, before smacking a solo shot in the seventh. To cap it off, he drove in Xander Bogaerts in the eighth. Merrill has been a different hitter in the second half, and his 14 homers since the All-Star break are the fifth-most in MLB. He’s up to 24 homers and 25 steals for the season, though he’s hitting just .245 with roughly a league-average wRC+. He doesn’t turn 24 until next April.
