It’s the highest spot that Rodriguez has batted since being called up back on September 12. The 23-year-old top prospect launched a solo homer during Monday’s series opener at Oracle Park, but is hitting just .194 (7-for-36) with 13 strikeouts and one walk through 10 games at the outset of his big-league career. He’s hitting directly behind fellow top prospect Walker Jenkins with Luke Keaschall back in the leadoff spot in this one.

Varsho takes a seat for the second straight contest with Brice Matthews getting an opportunity in center field. He’s really struggling at the dish recently, hitting .083 (2-for-24) over his last seven games. He’s posted a disastrous .535 OPS with five homers and three steals in 41 games since being acquired from the Blue Jays at last month’s trade deadline.

Roxby returns to San Francisco’s relief mix in place of an injured Blade Tidwell (elbow). The 27-year-old rookie allowed two runs over two innings of work during his first stint in the majors a couple weeks ago.

It’s potentially another significant hit to San Francisco’s long-term pitching depth as Tidwell told reporters that initial imaging revealed a high-grade UCL sprain. He’ll undergo further evaluation and receive additional medical opinions to determine whether he’ll require elbow surgery. There’s a strong possibility he winds up missing a significant portion, if not all, of next season, if he ends up needing Tommy John surgery. There should be a definitive update on his status in the coming weeks.

Machín figures to elect free agency after passing through waivers. The 32-year-old journeyman went 3-for-6 at the plate during a brief stint with the Rockies earlier this month.

There’s no reason for San Francisco to have Roupp, who is healthy, take the ball again after throwing a career-high 155 innings this season. The 28-year-old was slated to start Saturday’s contest against the Dodgers. He’ll finish with a pedestrian 4.01 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 143/75 K/BB ratio in 29 starts.

Snell appears to be on track to start Friday’s series opener against the Giants as his final tune-up prior to the postseason. There’s enough risk here from a health and volume standpoint that fantasy managers outside of deeper mixed leagues should probably seek alternative options for the final week of the season.

It doesn’t qualify as a significant surprise to see Pages hitting towards the bottom of the order in his return from the injured list since he skipped a minor league rehab assignment on his way back from surgery to repair a left hand fracture. It’ll probably take him a couple games to knock off some of the rust, but Pages is probably worth rolling out there in deeper mixed leagues for the final week of the season.

Tucker is back in right field and hitting fifth after sitting out Sunday’s series finale against the Giants with a right leg contusion. It doesn’t appear to be a significant concern heading into the home stretch of the regular season. The 29-year-old former fantasy star has shown some real signs of life recently, hitting .313 (15-for-48) with five homers and one steal over his last 15 games.

Davidson went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored during his major-league debut at Oracle Park on Monday night. The 24-year-old rising prospect is worthy of a speculative pickup in deeper mixed leagues for the final week of the season since he figures to continue hitting in the middle of San Francisco’s lineup.
