It’ll be Alec Gamboa coming up to take his roster spot ahead of Wednesday afternoon’s contest, according to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo.

The left-hander acquitted himself well in the majors, throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings across two appearances with three strikeouts and no baserunners allowed. The Red Sox needed to make room for Jake Bennett to be called up to start on Wednesday, but Gamboa should get another look this summer.

Gamboa gets a shot with Boston as a middle reliever after posting a 6.23 ERA and 15/5 K/BB ratio across 13 innings in three starts for Triple-A Worcester this season. The well-traveled 29-year-old lefty will likely pitch in mop-up duty for the Red Sox. He’ll be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game.

Red Sox reassigned INF Vinny Capra, C Jason Delay, OF Braiden Ward, LHP Alec Gamboa and RHPs Tayron Guerrero and Kyle Keller to minor league camp.

Capra was in Red Sox camp as a non-roster invitee and failed to land a spot on the club’s season-opening roster in a bench role. Delay is merely emergency catching depth while Guerrero and Keller could be up as stopgap relief options at some point later this year.

Red Sox signed LHP Alec Gamboa to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

He’ll make $925,000 if he’s in the majors. Gamboa, 28, was the Dodgers’ ninth-round pick in 2019 and pitched in their farm system until last May, when he made his way to Korea. He wound up 7-8 with a 3.58 ERA and a 117/49 K/BB in 108 innings over 19 starts with Lotte. He’s always been able to generate groundballs, and he could prove to be of some use in middle relief.

Astros optioned RHP Mike Burrows to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Burrows has been going through it, and he was charged for seven earned runs — 10 in total — in a loss Monay to the Astros that saw his ERA increase to an ugly 5.99 over 94 2/3 innings. He’ll head to Triple-A with Alimber Santa getting the call to replace the 26-year-old. Burrows seems likely to be back soon, but it seems pretty obvious he can’t be trusted in fantasy if/when that takes place.

Griffin picked up the injury making a diving catch in his previous game. The infielder will be in a splint for six weeks, and then he’ll need another 2-4 weeks before he’s eligible to return. The 20-year-old should be back before the season concludes, but this obviously will limit his fantasy impact substantially. Jared Triolo seems likely to play shortstop with Griffin unavailable.

Helsley is one of three pitchers seeking second opinions, with Keegan Aiken (elbow) and Colin Selby (shoulder) also visiting with specialists.
