Cade Marlowe has elected free agency.

The 25-year-old has exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Athletics and is now free to explore opportunities on the open market. Marlowe hasn’t appeared in a big league game since the 2024 season. He has sizzled at the plate at Triple-A Las Vegas this season, slashing .317/.394/.521 with seven homers, 50 RBI and 24 stolen bases (in 26 attempts) over 361 plate appearances. He shouldn’t be out of work for long.

James Schiano discusses Mets' pitcher Christian Scott's strong stretch over his last six starts and why the Mets right-hander could emerge as a top-50 starting pitcher for the rest of the season.

De Vries put together an extremely impressive showing in Cactus League play, hitting .409 (18-for-44) with three homers and 11 RBI in 17 contests. The switch-hitting 19-year-old prodigy was the centerpiece of the Mason Miller blockbuster at the trade deadline last July and will open the minor league season at Double-A Midland. It wouldn’t be shocking at all if he reached the big leagues as a teenager in the second half. He’s one of the top 10 prospects in the entire fantasy landscape entering 2026.
  • ATH Left Fielder #5
Marlowe had a tremendous 2024 season in Triple-A with the Mariners and forced his way into nine MLB plate appearances. Unfortunately, he battled injuries in 2025 and was limited to 46 games at Triple-A, posting a .316/.401/.474 slash line with four home runs and 12 steals. There’s a good chance that he could win a job as a fourth outfielder for the Athletics.
  • SEA Left Fielder #5
Marlowe was designated for assignment in February, but went unclaimed and stayed in the Seattle organization. He could help the Mariners in 2025 as a backup outfielder, but he’ll have to be added to the 40-man roster in order to d so.
  • SEA Left Fielder #5
Marlowe was purged from the M’s 40-man roster in early February to clear a spot for the return of Jorge Polanco, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will report to Triple-A. He’ll be in Mariners’ camp as a non-roster invitee this spring. The 27-year-old appeared in eight games for the Mariners in 2024 but saw just nine plate appearances — going 2-for-8 (.250) with a walk and a run scored.
  • SEA 2nd Baseman #7
The signing was announced last week but is now official. The one-year contract also has a $6 million player option for 2026 with a $750K buyout. If Polanco has 550 plate appearances in 2025 then his player option increases to $8 million. The 31-year-old was injured for much of 2024 and struggled to a .213/.296/.355 slash line with 16 homers, 45 RBI, and four stolen bases. However, he will get a chance to play every day for the Mariners to start the season and has a career .263/.330/.435 slash line in 950 MLB games and has at least 14 home runs in four straight seasons, so there’s a chance he can carve out deeper league fantasy value. Cade Marlowe was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
  • SEA Left Fielder #5
The Mariners needed space on the 40-man roster to make the Jorge Polanco signing official, so Marlowe was let go. While he hit just .235 in 411 Triple-A plate appearances, he also had 13 home runs and 43 steals. The 27-year-old has a .240/.330/.406 career slash line in 109 MLB plate appearances but has shown intriguing power/speed in the minor leagues.
  • SEA Left Fielder #5
Marlowe didn’t see much playing time during his stay with the big-league club, going 2-for-8 (.250) with a run scored and a 1/1 K/BB ratio in eight games. He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level until he’s needed once again. Ryan Bliss was promoted from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
  • SEA Left Fielder #2
Marlowe receives his first promotion to the majors this season amidst a flurry of roster moves for Seattle ahead of Tuesday’s showdown against the Angels. The 27-year-old outfielder, who got into 34 contests last year for Seattle, has batted .235/.341/.395 with 13 homers and 43 stolen bases across 411 plate appearances this season at the Triple-A level. There’s some five-category goodness in his profile, but it’s unclear whether he’ll put everything together at the highest level right out of the gate.
  • SEA Left Fielder #2
The Mariners have one of the deepest outfields in the majors, so it’s no surprise that Marlowe is being sent down. However, it’s a good problem to have for Seattle since Marlowe put together a solid 2023 season when he was in the majors slashing .239/.330/.420. He’ll be one of the first options for the Mariners to call up if there is an injury in the outfield.
  • SEA Left Fielder #18
The Mariners are almost certainly going to need some extra outfield help this year, and Marlowe will be one of the candidates to step in. He did a nice job in 34 major league games last season, hitting .239/.330/.420 even while striking out one-third of the time. His ample speed gives him some fantasy potential, but hitting for average figures to be a long-term issue.

Padres activated LHP Wandy Peralta from the bereavement list.

The 34-year-old southpaw rejoins the Padres’ bullpen for Sunday’s series finale against the Royals. Peralta has been a key cog in the club’s bullpen this season, compiling a 2.23 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 31/19 K/BB ratio across 48 1/3 innings of work. Ron Marinaccio was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Padres designated RHP Ron Marinaccio for assignment.

Marinaccio has made 33 appearances out of the Padres’ bullpen this season, registering a 4.79 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 38/18 K/BB ratio over 47 innings of work. With so many teams looking for bullpen help, it’s possible that he could attract interest on waivers.

Padres optioned RHP Jhony Brito to Triple-A El Paso.

Brito was just recalled from Triple-A on Wednesday to add an extra arm to the bullpen, but he’ll head back to Triple-A with Randy Vásquez returning from the injured list on Sunday. He’ll stay ready at Triple-A El Paso until he’s needed once more.

Padres activated RHP Randy Vásquez from the 15-day injured list.

The 27-year-old hurler had been sidelined since July 3 due to a right ankle bruise. He’s likely to rejoin the Padres’ rotation on Monday or Tuesday against the Braves in Atlanta. Jhony Brito was optioned to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Christian Walker (hip) was held out of the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s tilt against the Orioles.

Walker made an early exit from Saturday’s game after sustaining the injury while swinging the bat. He was able to participate in drills on the field prior to Sunday’s game though and isn’t expected to require a trip to the injured list, so he’s considered day-to-day. LaMonte Wade Jr. will start in his place at first base and bat cleanup for the Astros on Sunday.

Jeremy Peña (hamstring) is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles.

The good news is that Peña feels much improved after exiting Saturday’s game with a right hamstring cramp and isn’t expected to require a trip to the injured list. Nick Allen will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth for the Astros against Brandon Young and the Orioles on Sunday afternoon in Houston.

Astros recalled INF Raynel Delgado from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Delgado joins the Astros on Sunday to add some infield depth with both Christian Walker and Jeremy Pena banged up. He’s unlikely to see enough action to gain any sort of relevance from a fantasy perspective. Nate Pearson was designated for assignment in a corresponding move to clear a spot on the Astros’ active roster.

Astros designated RHP Nate Pearson for assignment.

The 29-year-old right-hander pitched decently in 16 appearances for the Astros this season, posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 16/12 K/BB ratio over 20 innings. He flashed enough during that stretch that he could generate some interest on waivers from bullpen-needy clubs.

Kyle Harrison (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Saturday without any issues.

Harrison underwent a precautionary MRI recently that came back clean for any structural issues. The last hurdle for him to clear before returning from the injured list will be to face live hitters. He’s eligible to return from the injured list on Friday, though it may be optimistic to expect him back the first day that he’s eligible.
