The 33-year-old’s massive contract makes him extremely challenging to move at the upcoming deadline, but San Diego is probably going to be motivated to find a way, especially if they’re pivoting to more of a long-term reconstruction. No surprise here after Witt exited Monday’s series opener after four innings with lower back tightness. The 26-year-old franchise cornerstone has been dealing with the issue for the past few days, and Kansas City is making the sensible decision to give him additional rest rather than risk it becoming a more serious concern. It’ll be speedster Tyler Tolbert getting the nod at shortstop in his place for the second time in the last three games. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale.

Langford will get a look atop Texas’ lineup with rookie southpaw Noah Schultz taking the ball for Chicago. It’s typically been Joc Pederson leading off against right-handed starters for the last couple weeks with Langford batting second. He’s out of the lineup to start this contest. The other notable change are Justin Foscue hitting second as he continues to emerge as a reliable lefty-mashing platoon option and rookie Cameron Cauley drawing a start in center field.

Walker returns to first base and will hit sixth after coming off the bench during Monday’s series opener. The 35-year-old veteran slugger was held out of the lineup for two consecutive contests with right hip tightness. It doesn’t appear to be a significant concern moving forward.

Basallo takes a seat for the second straight contest due to right shoulder discomfort. The 21-year-old expressed confidence to reporters that he’ll be able to manage the issue and avoid a trip to the injured list after the issue flared up over the weekend. The Orioles can’t really afford to take any chances with Adley Rutschman (wrist) on the injured list already. It’ll be Chadwick Tromp behind the plate at Fenway Park on Tuesday night, weather permitting.

Christian Koss is starting at second base. For now, we’ll just assume this is a rare day off for Arraez. Unlike the rest of his teammates, he didn’t get a real break while making his way to Philadelphia last week.
