Ranger Suarez (groin) is scheduled to throw again on Monday at Fenway Park.

It sounds like there’s still a chance Suarez will be activated from the injured list to start Tuesday’s contest against the Orioles, but the sizzling-hot Red Sox are going to wait until after his latest throwing session before making that call. Th 30-year-old All-Star lefty has been on the shelf with a groin strain since early July.
Will Royals let Witt Jr. play with back issue?
Eric Samulski debriefs Bobby Witt Jr. leaving the game against the Giants on Monday with a recurring lower back issue and whether the struggling Royals should continue to let him play with the nagging injury.

Angels signed OF Cade Marlowe to a minor league contract.

Marlowe was cut loose by the Athletics last week after triggering the opt-out in his minor league contract. The 29-year-old outfielder appeared in 42 games for the Mariners from 2023-2024. He was tearing the cover off the ball at the Triple-A level this season, slashing .317/.394/.521 with seven homers and 24 stolen bases in 361 plate appearances in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He’s merely organizational depth at this stage of his career.

Julio Rodríguez (leg) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Reds.

It appears that Seattle is proceeding with an abundance of caution after Rodríguez came down hard on the first-base bag immediately after taking an 85.9 mph throw from Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz off his left leg during Monday’s series opener. Mariners skipper Dan Wilson downplayed concern after the contest and is sounds like Rodríguez is day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale. It’ll be Victor Robles sliding over to patrol center field in his absence.

Mariners sent INF/OF Miles Mastrobuoni outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Mastrobuoni passed through waivers unclaimed after being jettisoned from Seattle’s roster over the weekend. The versatile 30-year-old hit just .192 (5-for-26) with zero homers or steals in 13 games after making his season debut back in early June.

White Sox manager Will Venable told reporters Kyle Teel (ankle) is likely to miss 6-12 weeks.

Venable classified it as a broad range, but it sounds like Teel will be out until at least early September and there’s a possibility he’s done for the remainder of the regular season. The 24-year-old backstop was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain after suffering the injury on a play at home plate during Monday’s game against the Rangers. It’ll be Drew Romo and Edgar Quero handling the catching duties in his absence. It would probably make sense for Chicago to pursue a temporary veteran stopgap at the trade deadline based on this latest development.

Jake Bennett will start the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Orioles.

The Red Sox are going to wait until the last possible second before making a decision whether to activate Ranger Suarez (groin) for the nightcap at Fenway Park. Bennett was brilliant in his previous outing, tossing six scoreless innings to defeat the Rays last Friday. He’s a viable option in all fantasy leagues at this point.

Nick Lodolo (blister) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Lodolo hit the injured list with a blister on his left index finger just prior to the All-Star break. The Reds are going to approach his situation with caution to avoid a potential setback. It’s unclear whether he’ll need a rehab start, but there’s a chance he’s ready to jump back into Cincinnati’s rotation at some point in early August.

Kerry Carpenter (heel) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Cubs.

Carpenter has been scuffling at the dish recently and has also been playing through a bruised heel that caused him to make an early exit from Monday’s series opener. The hope for the Tigers is that the extra time off puts the issue to bed.

A.J. Ewing is in left field and hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Brewers.

Mets interim manager Andy Green said earlier this week that Ewing will shuffle between a couple outfield spots since he has experience doing that recently with Luis Robert Jr. handling center field exclusively now that he’s back from the injured list. The 21-year-old rookie has been an impactful fantasy contributor right out of the gate this season, hitting .271/.343/.425 with seven homers and 10 steals in 241 plate appearances across 61 games.
