ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Astros are finalizing a trade to acquire Daulton Varsho from the Blue Jays.

Varsho will switch clubhouses prior to Monday’s series opener at Daikin Park in Houston. The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon reports the Blue Jays are getting starter Spencer Arrighetti, who is currently on the injured list with right foot nerve irritation, back in the deal. Varsho shores up Houston’s significant need for a center fielder after Jake Meyers struggled to the point that he was demoted last month. The 30-year-old played a key role in Toronto’s run to the World Series last year. He’s supplied seven homers and nine steals in 365 plate appearances across 99 games this season.

James Schiano cannot understate the leap that Pete Crow-Armstrong has taken in 2026, who now is the fourth player ever to reach 40 HRs and 30 stolen bases in the last ten years.

Roki Sasaki (blister) could be activated from the injured list next week.

Sasaki hit the injured list with a blister on his right middle finger roughly two weeks ago. It sounds like the issue has resolved itself to the point that he’ll be able to take the ball again for the final two weeks of the season.

Edwin Díaz (neck) could potentially be activated from the injured list this weekend.

Díaz is slated to make back-to-back appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City this week before he’s potentially activated from the injured list. The 32-year-old former elite closer has been on the shelf with neck inflammation since late August. It feels highly unlikely that he’ll be thrust into high-leverage spots for the Dodgers right away.

Dansby Swanson (oblique) could begin a minor league rehab assignment next week, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.

It sounds like there’s a decent chance that Swanson is back for the final week of the regular season after getting a couple rehab contests under his belt. The 32-year-old shortstop hit the injured list with an oblique strain back in mid-August.

Shea Langeliers (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday.

Langeliers is on track to return at some point next week and will be limited to DH exclusively after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee back in July. It was believed to be a season-ending procedure at the time, but Langeliers has made a rapid recovery. He’s obviously worth picking up in any fantasy leagues where he’s available as a decent catching option for the final week-plus of the season.

Corbin Carroll was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Royals with lower back discomfort.

Carroll was dropped to the fifth spot in Arizona’s lineup over the weekend as his second-half struggles continue. The 26-year-old franchise cornerstone is hitting just .215 with six homers and 11 steals in 48 games since the All-Star break. It’ll be versatile Tim Tawa taking over in right field in his absence. There should be an update on his status following the contest, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

    Athletics released LHP José Suarez.

Suárez heads to the open market after passing through waivers unclaimed earlier this week. The 28-year-old lefty compiled a lackluster 5.87 ERA across 61 1/3 innings for the Athletics after being acquired from the Mariners back in mid-May.

Winn returns to St. Louis’ lineup for Tuesday’s tilt against the Giants following a two-week absence due to a fractured left thumb. The 24-year-old shortstop has hit just .238/.314/.326 with 49 runs scored, five homers, 51 RBI and 10 steals in 490 plate appearances this season. He’s at shortstop and hitting eighth on Tuesday night at Oracle Park.

Cardinals optioned INF César Prieto to Triple-A Memphis.

Nationals promoted SS prospect Eli Willits to Double-A Harrisburg.

Wilits receives an extra week of game action, and a sneak preview of the upper minors, after High-A Wilmington wrapped up their season over the weekend. The 18-year-old phenom, who was selected first overall in last year’s draft, hit .262/.404/.457 with 13 homers and 60 stolen bases in 521 plate appearances between High-A Wilmington and Low-A Fredericksburg. He figures to open next season back in Double-A with a legitimate chance to reach the majors before his 19th birthday.
