Chris Sale strikes out eight in loss to Yankees

The Braves were facing a 1-0 deficit heading into the eighth inning but got a two-out rally going with back-to-back singles from Matt Olson and Mauricio Dubon. Harris then smoked a double into the gap in left-center that scored both runs and put the Braves ahead to stay. The 25-year-old outfielder finished the day 2-for-4 and is now slashing an excellent .296/.322/.498 on the season to go along with 22 homers, 77 RBI and nine stolen bases.

Raisel Iglesias only threw 16 pitches in closing out the Rockies on Friday night, so it’s interesting that it was Fuentes who got the call in this one instead of the Braves’ closer. It wasn’t the smoothest of innings, as he allowed a leadoff walk to Willi Castro and a one-out single to Troy Johnston, but he was able to battle back to strike out Zac Veen and get Jake McCarthy on a line out to right field to end it. He has emerged as a major weapon out of the Braves’ bullpen and should continue to see the occasional save chance over the final month of the season.

The 35-year-old southpaw racked up six strikeouts on the night while issuing two free passes. He was locked in a scoreless battle until the sixth inning where Willi Castro delivered a two-out, RBI single that gave the Rockies the lead. Pérez got 14 swings and misses on 83 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 30 percent. He now boasts a solid 3.05 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 91/50 K/BB ratio over 121 innings in 26 appearances (22 starts) on the season. He’ll do battle against the Phillies his next time out in Philadelphia on Saturday.

The versatile 29-year-old snapped a scoreless tie as he plated Hunter Goodman with a two-out RBI single off of Martin Perez in the sixth inning. Unfortunately for the Rockies, that would be the extent of their offense in the ballgame. He also drew a walk in the contest. For the season, Castro is now slashing .263/.335/.422 with 15 homers, 56 RBI and 10 stolen bases (in 16 attempts) over 469 plate appearances on the year.

Agnos was pressed into extended action when Ryan Feltner was scratched due to illness before the game and filled in admirably, getting the first eight outs for the Rockies. On the season, the 26-year-old hurler holds a troublesome 5.49 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and a 52/27 K/BB ratio over 78 2/3 innings in his 35 appearances (three starts).

The 31-year-old hurler has finally made it all the way back from Tommy John surgery and is ready for live game action. Barring any setbacks, he should make a couple of starts at the MLB level down the stretch, though with the inconsistency and workload limitations that should be expected upon his return he’s not necessarily going to be a strong option from a fantasy perspective.

Schmitt is set to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, so this move was an inevitability to free up a spot on the Giants’ 40-man roster. The expectation is that Schmitt will be fully recovered and ready to go in time for spring training.

Milner had been placed on outright waivers and now he has been removed from the club’s 40-man roster. The expectation is that the 35-year-old southpaw will pass through waivers unclaimed and elect free agency.

Crews singled on a soft grounder in the third inning, bringing two runners home after a throwing error to first base. He’d come around to score in the inning before coming through for the Nationals in extras. With two runners on and the game tied in the tenth, he knocked a base hit to walk it off. The 24-year-old outfielder is hitting .223/.292/.368 with 10 homers, 44 runs scored, 34 RBI, and eight steals across 349 plate appearances.
