Andrew Abbott allows five runs to White Sox

He’ll start tonight’s game against the Rays. No need to stream him here, but it’s good to see Bassitt back after he missed two months with a back injury.

Urquidy was lit up as a long reliever this year with the Pirates, but has a 3.48 ERA in 20 Triple-A starts between Indianapolis and Charlotte. It’s possible he gets another chance in the rotation (or as a bulk reliever) with the Sox losing Davis Martin to the injured list.

Schweitzer has a 2.78 ERA in 22 2/3 innings for the White Sox this year and will regain a low-leverage role.

He threw 25 pitches and recorded one out while walking three and hitting a batter yesterday. McDougal’s future is still promising, but the White Sox needed a fresh arm.

Martin had pitched poorly of late, so it’s not much of a surprise that he was going through something. It’s possible that Erick Fedde gets some starts in Martin’s place.

Assuming the game isn’t eaten up by the lockout, Bobby Witt Jr. will roam the cornfields of Iowa on August 12, 2027. The game, played in Iowa, was picked up by Netflix this year and has become an interesting showcase over the past few seasons.

Cabrera hasn’t been strong enough this year to be an easy start against the Cardinals in his first stint off the IL, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he pitched well either. He struck out seven in five scoreless innings in a tune-up on Tuesday at Double-A Knoxville.

Pagán headed for a medical evaluation on his sore pitching hand. “We’re gonna get him looked at. If he checks out, good. But I just wanna make sure he’s OK,” manager Terry Francona said. Tejay Antone and Brock Burke look like a short-term closer committee for the Reds while this gets figured out.

He went on to steal second afterwards, making him 9-for-12 on the basepaths this year.

Drohan allowed one run on a leadoff walk and a single in the fifth and then was pulled with a 2-1 lead in the sixth after walking back-to-back batters with one out. Antonio Senzatela replaced him and, after getting Teoscar Hernández to ground out, gave up a three-run pinch-hit homer to Max Muncy to add two runs to Drohan’s total. Drohan will have an easier assignment at home next week against the Mariners, making him a decent option in mixed leagues.
