Nationals 1B/3B prospect Yohandy Morales went 1-for-5 with an RBI for Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

Morales had been sidelined for three weeks with an undisclosed injury, but he has gone 7-for-21 with two home runs and four RBI in his five games since returning. The 40th-overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft is hitting .297/.374/.544 in 89 Triple-A games this season with 23 home runs, 66 RBI, and five steals. He should get a shot with the Nationals at some point to end the year.

White Sox released C Eric Haase.

Haase did not appear in a major league game with the White Sox after being released by the Giants. He hit .360/.467/.560 in 30 plate appearances with Triple-A Charlotte. Perhaps he’s got an opportunity elsewhere he prefers.

Nico Hoerner is not in Chicago’s starting lineup for Thursday’s game against the Nationals.

It looks to just be a routine day off. Pedro Ramírez is batting sixth and playing second base in Hoerner’s absence.

Giants transferred RHP Trevor McDonald from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

After undergoing Tommy John surgery McDonald will miss the rest of this season and likely most of 2027. This is a procedural move to free up a roster spot for waiver-claimed 3B Shay Whitcomb.

Giants claimed 3B Shay Whitcomb off waivers from the Astros.

We’re unsure if he’ll be reporting directly to Triple-A Sacramento or if he’ll join the Giants bench, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he got a shot to show something in the bigs towards the end of a lost season.

Davis Martin was ejected in the top of the third inning after hitting Sal Stewart in the helmet.

Both benches cleared after Stewart pointed at Martin and indicated he was head-hunting. Martin allowed two homers -- one to Stewart and one to Eugenio Suarez -- and left with a 4-3 lead. Erick Fedde replaced Martin and allowed Stewart to score. Martin has an 8.79 ERA in his last seven starts and has allowed six homers in his last four appearances. 12-teamers can probably avoid him against the Cubs next week, assuming he avoids any discipline for the incident.

Rays designated RHP Trevor Martin for assignment.

Martin has a 3.97 ERA in 11 1/3 innings with the Ray this year and is only 25 — we figure he’ll at least draw some interest on waivers.

Rays optioned RHP Michael Grove to Triple-A Durham.

With Jesse Scholtens up to give innings while Griffin Jax (elbow) is on the injured list, Grove will likely return in the near future.

Rays recalled RHP Jesse Scholtens from Triple-A Durham.

Scholtens has a 3.82 ERA in nine appearances with the Rays, mostly working as a starter or bulk reliever, with 30 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports he’ll “likely” pitch Friday, we’d assume in a bulk reliever role, against the Orioles.

    Rays signed INF/OF Jorge Mateo.

He’ll be on the major league roster with Carson Williams optioned down. Mateo lost starting work to Jim Jarvis in early July and had mostly been a bench option since. He’ll probably be much the same in Tampa, though perhaps he’ll join a platoon.

Rays optioned INF Carson Williams to Triple-A Durham.

Jorge Mateo will take his roster spot. Williams has mostly been an up-down replacement rather than anything resembling a top prospect this year, hitting .108/.154/.216 in 40 plate appearances for the Rays and .226/.318/.329 for the Bulls.
