Trea Turner exits after fouling pitch off knee

Giants manager Tony Vitello told reporters Davidson was lifted from Wednesday’s game against the Twins after fouling a ball off his right foot in the same spot that he did a couple weeks ago at Triple-A Sacramento. The 24-year-old rising prospect was 1-for-3 with a run scored prior to departing in the ninth inning. He’s hitting .300 (3-for-10) with one stolen base through three games since being promoted to the majors earlier this week. He’s presumably day-to-day heading into Friday’s series opener against the Dodgers.

Jackson unsurprisingly passed through waivers unclaimed after barely playing for Minnesota over the last few weeks. The 30-year-old backstop figures to stick around for the final few games of the season before heading to free agency.

Betts remains in the leadoff spot with Shohei Ohtani back from the injured list. The 33-year-old shortstop has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball recently, batting .366 (26-for-71) with six homers, 21 RBI and one steal in 18 games since the start of September.

Hendrickson receives his first promotion to the majors with starter Cristian Javier (groin) hitting the injured list. The unheralded 29-year-old has posted a respectable 4.75 ERA and 106/27 K/BB ratio across 113 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. He figures to operate in middle relief.

Javier winds up requiring a trip to the injured list following his departure from Tuesday’s start against the Mariners after just two innings due to groin tightness. The 29-year-old’s absence is another hit to Houston’s rotation depth as they attempt to stay in the AL West division race with the Rangers entering their final handful of games. The big question is whether Javier will be able to return at some point in the postseason. There should be additional clarity on his status in the coming days.

There’s no injury designation, but the move opens up a spot on Houston’s 40-man roster. It also rules out Meyers for the rest of the year, including the postseason.

Cash added that McClanahan hasn’t been ruled out for the ALCS or beyond, but he won’t be ready when Tampa Bay kicks off the postseason. The 29-year-old southpaw has been on the shelf with forearm tightness since early September. He kicked off a throwing progression earlier this month and figures to pitch at some point in the playoffs.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters earlier this week that Ohtani is feeling much better following the extra time off, which is an extremely positive development heading into the postseason where his formidable bat is indispensable. The 32-year-old generational talent has still managed to hit .277/.380/.522 with 89 runs scored, 30 homers, 80 RBI and 11 steals in 596 plate appearances during an injury-plagued season.
