The Rockies had been hopeful that Goodman would return to the lineup on Saturday but he was ultimately scratched due to inflammation in his shoulder. If he isn’t ready to go for Monday’s series opener against the Dodgers, the Rockies may be forced to consider a backdated stint on the injured list. Brett Sullivan will once again fill in behind the dish and will bat eighth against the Giants on Sunday.

After three straight days catching, Goodman will take his first breather since June 21. Brett Sullivan is getting a start for the Rockies while Willi Castro bats cleanup. Goodman is hitting .243/.306/.547 with 27 homers in just 340 plate appearances so far this year — the double/homer distribution has been skewed in favor of homers so far this year, much to the delight of fantasy managers.

It’s presumably a routine day off for Goodman after starting 23 consecutive games between catcher and DH since May 25. The 26-year-old slugging backstop has homered a whopping 10 times during that span. It’ll be Brett Sullivan behind the dish with rookie Sterlin Thompson at DH on Sunday afternoon.

The 32-year-old Sullivan had just three major league homers coming into the game, one each in 2023, ’24 and ’26. It’s his second three-hit game. Sullivan is batting .231/.298/.396 in 98 plate appearances as Hunter Goodman’s backup.

Brett Sullivan delivered a run-scoring double in the 11th inning on Thursday as the Rockies dropped a heartbreaker to the Padres in San Diego.

Sullivan — who entered the game once Hunter Goodman was removed with a lacerated finger — nearly wound up playing the role of hero. He led off the 11th inning by lining a double into the right field corner off of Jeremiah Estrada, giving the Rockies a lead, though they wouldn’t be able to hang onto it. He finished the day 1-for-2 and is now hitting .333/.375/.400 with two RBI on the season.

Robert Murray of FanSided reports that the Phillies are signing Nestor Cortes (arm) to a one-year deal.

Cortes will get an MLB deal, which makes sense considering the deal will be prorated and there’s not much season left. The southpaw has not pitched since 2025 after undergoing surgery in the middle of October that year. While he has a starting background, there isn’t much time for to build into that role. A muti-inning option out of the bullpen for the remainder of 2026.

Polanco was placed on the injured list before Wednesday’s game against the Padres with ankle bursitis. The 33-year-old has had a disastrous first season with the Mets that has seen him deal with injuries and ineffectiveness when available. If he does undergo the operation, it will all but assuredly mean he’s played his last game in 2026. That may be true, either way.
