Edward Cabrera activated from IL for Sunday start

Lorenzen was cut loose by Colorado after passing through waivers unclaimed. Apparently, no team was willing to pick up the remainder of his contract. The 34-year-old veteran struggled to a bloated 7.08 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 82/49 K/BB ratio across 115 2/3 innings in his Rockies debut this season. Given his track record, there’s a chance another organization is willing to bring him on as an innings eater for the final five weeks of the season.

Vines was pitching in the independent Mexican League this season. He hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since making four appearances for the Braves back in 2024. The 28-year-old will heads to Triple-A Louisville and represents a zero-risk lottery ticket for Cincinnati over the final five weeks of the season.

Marinaccio heads to the open market instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville. The 31-year-old has pitched for three different clubs this season. He allowed 10 runs over 5 1/3 innings across four appearances for the Reds before being designated for assignment earlier this week. He should be able to latch on somewhere else as organizational relief depth to finish the year.

Sean Newcomb, Urquidy and Grant Taylor combined on a two-hitter today. Urquidy faced just one over the minimum in his best outing since elbow surgery. His previous eight-strikeout game came way back on Sept. 4, 2022. The excellent showing should ensure that he’ll pitch again as a starter or as a bulk guy Monday against the Rays.

Taylor struck out two of the four batters he faced in bouncing back from a cheap blown save Tuesday. He’ll rest Thursday, which could lead to a save chance of Bryan Hudson or Jordan Hicks.

Holmes didn’t have his best velocity today and wound up with just one strikeout, but he was again effective. After struggling some in his first start back from a fractured fibula, he’s allowed one run and seven hits over 12 innings in his last two starts. His next start will come against a Diamondbacks team that nearly traded for him earlier this month.

The double came on a grounder down the first base line that deflected off Michael Busch’s glove. Montgomery is 8-for-25 with six RBI in his last six games, putting him at .238/.328/.374 overall.

Hoffmann could wind up re-signing with the club on a minor league pact after clearing waivers. The injured 26-year-old reliever was designated for assignment earlier this week in a roster crunch. He made eight appearances for Arizona earlier this year.

Fletcher was with the Pirates on a minor league pact and hasn’t appeared in the majors this season. He got into 12 games for the White Sox last year. The 28-year-old outfielder has hit .291/.374/.484 with nine homers and three steals in 255 plate appearances in the minors this season.

Bae figures to elect free agency instead of sticking around as emergency organizational depth. The 27-year-old went 1-for-4 with a stolen base during a brief stint with the club earlier this month.
