Guardians call up David Fry with Rhys Hoskins out

Fry heads back to the minors after hitting .182/.304/.336 with six homers and 13 RBI across 168 plate appearances in a reserve role this season. The fact that he’s no longer catching extinguishes his only real path to fantasy relevance at this stage of his career.

Kwan will get a breather with tough left-hander Shane McClanahan on the hill for the Rays. David Fry will mat left field in his place and will bat fifth on Friday night at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay.

Bazzana has been removed from Cleveland’s leadoff spot after hitting .198/.280/.362 with four homers and four steals over his last 30 games. The 23-year-old rookie has been struggling recently, hitting just .238 (5-for-30) over his last seven games. It’ll be David Fry getting a look atop the lineup against Twins rookie lefty Connor Prielipp in this one. It could be a one-game decision, but fantasy managers should prepare for Bazzana to hit lower in the Guardians lineup against lefty starters moving forward.

Watson has been functioning as the Guardians’ primary cleanup hitter since arriving from Triple-A and has provided a much-needed boost to the team’s offense. He’ll get a breather with left-hander Anthony Kay on the mound on Friday night though. David Fry will start in left field and bat second for the Guardians.

Even though Fry has an .841 OPS in his 40 at-bats against righties this year, the Guardians had Daniel Schneeman bat for him in the seventh today. But Schneeman did provide a defensive upgrade, too, what with Fry starting in right field today. Prior to this, he’d started three of 16 games and hadn’t started against a righty since May 24.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt told reporters DeLauter underwent imaging that revealed a bone bruise and a small fracture in his right ribcage. He’s day-to-day and could potentially play through the issues, but a trip to the injured list remains a possibility. He was likely to open this contest on the bench anyway with lefty Robert Gasser taking the hill for Milwaukee. It’ll be veteran David Fry heading out to right field in his place. There should be a clearer idea regarding the 24-year-old rookie sensation’s outlook later this week.

The 24-year-old outfielder was removed from Saturday’s contest due to inflammation in his left foot — an injury that has bothered him for a while and flared up on Saturday. He was sent for an MRI exam, the results of which are not yet known. David Fry will start in his place in left field on Sunday and will bat fifth for the Guardians against Red Sox’ left-hander Ranger Suarez.

Fry’s start against Michael Wacha tonight was just his third of the year versus a righty. He’s batting .262/.392/.500 in his 51 plate appearances, so he might be in line for more playing time at the expense of Kyle Manzardo and Rhys Hoskins.

Fry got the rare start against a right-handed pitcher on Saturday, starting in right field. He took Kevin Gausman deep for a solo homer in the seventh inning for his first of the season. The 30-year-old slugger remains mostly limited to starts against left-handing pitching, mixing in at catcher, right field, and designated hitter.

As is often the case, the 24-year-old outfielder will find himself on the bench with an opposing left-hander on the mound. David Fry will start in his place in right field and bat fifth against Trevor Rogers and the Orioles on Sunday.
