This is now the second day in a row that Rutschman has been held out of the lineup. The Red Sox may believe they can beat the Marlins without his bat and want to ensure he’s healthy for Friday’s series opener against the Yankees. However, with Rutschman’s injury history, it makes sense to be a little concerned. Connor Wong will catch and bat ninth, while Mickey Gasper, who homered twice on Tuesday, is the DH and bats fifth.

The unheralded 30-year-old journeyman launched solo homers in the second and sixth innings, respectively, to record the first multi-homer performance of his career. He’s gone deep an astounding five times in his last eight games after failing to leave the yard in 34 games to open the year. He’s the most likely candidate to lose playing time at DH once Anthony is back from the injured list later this week.

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters he’s not concerned after Rutschman felt something in his right elbow on an awkward swing during Monday’s series opener in Miami. It sounds like a precautionary day off, but fantasy managers should pay attention to his status for the remainder of the week.

Mickey Gasper went 2-for-2 with an RBI double on Monday, helping the Red Sox to a 4-2 win over the Marlins.

Gasper also walked twice, reaching base safely in all four of his plate appearances. He came through with a key hit in this one, delivering a game-tying RBI double off Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara in the fifth inning. The big question is whether he’ll have a role once Roman Anthony (finger) is back from the injured list relatively soon. He’s been on a roll recently, hitting .421 (8-for-19) with three homers and 10 RBI over his last seven games.

Mickey Gasper homered for the third consecutive game during Wednesday’s extra-inning loss to the Diamondbacks.

Gasper delivered the key knock for the Red Sox in this one, taking Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt deep for a game-tying blast with two outs in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Diamondbacks managed to pull out the win in extra innings. The 30-year-old journeyman went 34 straight games without a homer before going deep in three straight games against Arizona in this series. At this point, he should be trying to get traded to the NL West in the offseason just so he can face them a few more times.

Rutschman had a two-run single in the first and then hit a 401-foot homer off Merrill Kelly in the third. It was his first homer in seven games for Boston after 69 in 3 1/2 seasons with the Orioles.
