Aroldis Chapman tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Orioles on Friday.

Chapman locked down the save against the Orioles on Friday night, retiring the side in order while recording one strikeout. It was his 32nd save of the season. Chapman now has 399 career saves and with one more he’ll become the ninth pitcher in MLB history to join the 400 saves club.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Craig Breslow said that he, Willson Contreras, and manager Chad Tracy met “for over two hours [on Sunday] to discuss a host of topics.”

We assume the primary topic was Contreras’ locker room comments after the Game 2 loss to the Yankees, where he insinuated, pretty strongly, that the Red Sox were far too reliant on data to make decisions for the team. Tracy has been roundly criticized for his decision to pull both Payton Tolle and Sonny Gray after just 4 2/3 innings in each of the games. As a first-year manager, Tracy could use the experience and the subsequent meeting with Contreras as a learning experience heading into 2027.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Sam Breslow said that Roman Anthony (hand) “likely doesn’t need surgery and rest is likely the best path to improvement.”

Normally, we’d be happy that a player doesn’t require surgery; however, Anthony took three months to rest his hand this season and then reaggravated his injury during the final game of the regular season. Hopefully the longer layoff in the offseason will produce more healing, but this will certainly cloud his outlook heading into 2027. If Anthony does return healthy and is able to play a full season for the Red Sox, he could be one of the bigger bargains in fantasy baseball next year.

Guardians INF prospect Welbyn Francisca went 5-for-5 with a walk, a home run, a stolen base, three RBI, and three runs in his Arizona Fall League debut on Saturday.

The 20-year-old middle infield prospect had a strong 2026 season after a down year in 2025. In 65 games in High-A Francisca hit .277/.356/.538 with 17 home runs, 49 RBI, and 11 steals. He was then promoted to Double-A for the final five games of the season. He will likely begin 2027 in Double-A as well and seems unlikely to debut next season. However, he is becoming a name to keep an eye on.

White Sox INF/OF prospect Caleb Bonemer went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and an RBI in Arizona Fall League action on Sunday.

Bonemer is now 4-for-9 with two doubles, four RBI, and a 2/1 K/BB ratio in two AFL games. The 21-year-old was at DH this game after starting the first game in center field. The White Sox want him to get experience in the outfield this fall, but with Colson Montgomery’s contact issues, we wouldn’t rule out Bonemer just remaining at shortstop for the long term.

Michael Harris II went 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI double as the Braves edged the Dodgers 3-2 on Sunday to even the NLDS at one game apiece.

Before scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch, Harris tripled on a fly to left off Kris Bubic in the fifth. A good left fielder likely would have caught the ball and a competent one at least should have held him to a double, but Teoscar Hernández did neither of those things. Harris then gave the Braves an insurance run with his double in the seventh. He deserved some grief against the Phillies for not running out a grounder, leading to a 3-2-3 double play, but he’s been great otherwise in going 8-for-20 with a homer and four RBI in five games. The Braves will get to return to Atlanta ahead of what should be a delightful game with Chris Sale and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound for Tuesday’s Game 3.

After coming in to start the sixth, Didier Fuentes allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings in the Braves’ win over the Dodgers on Sunday.

Fuentes nearly matched Grant Taylor’s effort against the Guardians on Saturday, only again a much better offense and without the help of any shadows. Alas, one out away from finishing the game, he gave up a homer to Max Muncy to narrow Atlanta’s lead to 3-2. The Braves then turned to Raisel Iglesias, whose got Josue De Paula to pop out for a one-out save. Fuentes threw 47 pitches tonight on two days’ rest after pitching in three straight games against the Phillies, though those were at least shorter outings (46 pitches in all). We’d love to tout him as a breakthrough starter in 2027, but if the Braves keep advancing in the postseason, one wonders how he’ll hold up. The Braves almost surely have to give him Game 3 off after this.

Blake Snell was pulled after walking five and allowing one run in 3 2/3 innings Sunday against the Braves.

It wasn’t any fun to watch, but Snell did keep the Dodgers in it until the ball was taken from him. He struck out five, and none of the five batters he walked came around to score, though a couple did help to advance the one runner that scored in the first. He’ll likely be available in relief of Tarik Skubal in Game 5 if needed.

Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 and homered Sunday against the Braves.

Even if nothing much else went right for the Dodgers tonight, it was encouraging to see Freeman jump on a Grant Holmes pitch for his first homer since Sept. 2. It was his 17th career postseason homer, tying him for 17th most all-time.

Jackson Chourio delivered a game-winning two-run single off Mason Miller in the bottom of the ninth Sunday as the Brewers beat the Padres 4-3 to take a 2-0 series lead in the NLDS.

Chourio won a thrilling six-pitch at-bat with two outs and the bases loaded, fouling off a 104-mph fastball with two strikes that would have retired most batters and then laying off a low slider before crushing a liner on a 101-mph fastball to end it. It was the Brewers’ first hit against Miller after Christian Yelich, Sal Frelick and Gary Sánchez all worked walks. Chourio also homered Saturday, and he has driven in four of the Brewers’ seven runs in the series. Before the incredible ending, it was an oddly sloppy game, with the teams combining for five errors that led to three unearned runs, Dustin May and Nick Pivetta are expected to start Tuesday when the series resumes in San Diego.

Logan Henderson yielded two runs — one earned — in five-plus innings Sunday in Game 2 against the Padres.

Henderson allowed a run on a two-out walk, a wild pitch and a single in the first and then one more in the fifth after a Brice Turang error. He walked three, which is unusual, but he definitely gave the Brewers what they were looking for in his postseason debut. He should be available behind Jacob Misiorowski in a potential Game 5.
