Athletics bring back Jack Perkins from Triple-A

Perkins struck out seven, but pretty much everyone else reached against him; he gave up four hits, five walks and a HBP to the other 12 batters he faced. It’s probably time for the A’s to commit to him as a short reliever, since he doesn’t seem like he’s going to be worth keeping around as a starter.

Perkins gave up four hits, walked four and struck out five. He fell to 3-10 with the loss. Perkins’ own throwing error on a pickoff attempt led to an Orioles run that was unearned in the third inning. In the fifth inning, he allowed a solo home run to Colton Cowser. Perkins has a 6.42 ERA as a swingman for the Athletics this year. He’s lined up to face the Mariners on the road next week.

Perkins took over down 3-0 after Brady Basso struggled in the first, but he ended up leaving with the A’s on top 7-6. He struck out six and walked five, though two of those were intentional passes to Yordan Alvarez. The win is his first since Apr. 18, when he got one in relief for finishing off an 11-inning game. He’d been 0-9 since. He’ll likely face the Orioles on Saturday, probably again as a bulk pitcher.

Perkins gave up one hit, walked one and struck out four. He entered in the third inning as the bulk pitcher. Perkins was 0-3 with an 11.48 ERA in three starts in August entering play Tuesday. He has a 6.96 ERA on the season. Perkins is lined up to face the Astros on the road on Sunday.

Perkins took the loss to fall to 2-0 with a 7.26 ERA. It seems like time for the A’s to give someone else a try, but if not, he’ll face the Royals on Tuesday.

Perkins allowed six hard-hit balls and topped out at 96.4 mph, but he’s reliant on getting batters to chase and the Red Sox weren’t offering tonight. He’ll try to rebound next time out against the Rays.

Springs’ hip has been a problem since at least April, though this is his first IL stint of the year. It’s not yet clear whether this will be a brief rest to try to get him closer to 100 percent or if he’s being shut down. The left-hander has a 6.17 ERA in 22 starts this year. With Springs going down, both Mason Barnett and Jack Perkins should keep starting for now. One was expected to be removed from the rotation with J.T. Ginn back.

Perkins couldn’t keep the ball in the park, as he allowed three homers to Gleyber Torres, Max Clark — Clark’s first as a big-leaguer — and Kevin McGonigle, respectfully. Outside of those homers the 26-year-old did whiff nine, but he allowed six other hits in a disappointing effort despite the punchouts. Perkins. While he did pitch well against them last week, fantasy managers may want to look elsewhere for a streamer when he faces the Red Sox on Friday.

Perkins was lifted with the shutout intact and two on with two outs in the sixth. José Suárez replaced him and then walked Wilyer Abreu before giving up a grand slam to Ceddanne Rafaela that accounted for all of Boston’s scoring on the night. As a result, Perkins dropped to 2-6 despite turning in his best outing of the season. He allowed just one hit and struck out four while throwing only 69 pitches to get his 17 outs. He’s of little interest in fantasy leagues, but he definitely deserved better tonight. He’ll face the Tigers this weekend.
