Dodgers optioned OF Josue De Paula to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

De Paula winds up back in the minors after sipping a quick cup of coffee with generational talent Shohei Ohtani returning from the injured list. The 21-year-old top prospect lived up to the considerable hype, making the leap from Double-A to the majors seamlessly, hitting .323 (10-for-31) with one homer, seven RBI and one steal in 11 games. He also walked 11 times and only struck out five times in 42 plate appearances. The decision to option him at this exact moment keeps him available to be included on Los Angeles’ NLDS roster. He seems like a strong bet to make a postseason appearance after looking completely unfazed during his first exposure to the majors.

We don’t want to jump the gun, but it sure looks like DePaula is going to be on the Dodgers’ postseason roster, even if he’s not a starter following Shohei Ohtani’s return. He’s at .238/.448/.476 with a ludicrous 2/8 K/BB through 29 plate appearances.

Josue De Paula is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Reds.

De Paula takes a seat with veteran Teoscar Hernández at DH and Kyle Tucker in right field to face Cincinnati southpaw Andrew Abbott. The 21-year-old phenom went 0-for-5 out of the leadoff spot on Tuesday and is hitting just .143 (2-for-14) with one homer, three RBI and one steal in five games since being promoted from Double-A Tulsa last week. The fact that he’s hitting some initial turbulence isn’t a surprise at all considering his relative inexperience while facing big-league arms for the first time. He has an extremely bright future ahead of him as an all-around fantasy contributor. The big question is whether he’ll have a spot with Los Angeles once Shohei Ohtani (biceps, knee) is ready to return from the injured list next week.

Josue De Paula is leading off against the Reds on Tuesday.

Tommy Edman has been leading off in Shohei Ohtani’s place, but he’s down to seventh against a righty tonight. De Paula hadn’t hit higher than sixth in his previous four starts since being called up. He’s only 2-for-14 to date, but those two hits are a homer and a double, and he’s drawn five walks while having yet to strike out.

Nick Lodolo is on the mound for the Reds, so De Paula moves down to ninth in the order, but it’s nice to see that he will remain in the lineup, even against lefties. He hit .267 off lefties in Double-A, but had just eight extra-base hits all season, so we’ll watch closely to see how he handles Major League lefties.

Josue De Paula registered his first major league hit with a three-run homer Sunday against the Marlins.

And what a way to do it, as the top prospect slugger crushed a pitch from Eury Pérez into the second deck in right field. The moonshot traveled an estimated 416 feet, with an exit velocity of 108.2 mph. The 21-year-old also doubled in the sixth inning. The display of raw power on the home run was impressive — and tantalizing for fantasy managers — as we look to the home stretch and beyond, but he’s also worked four walks to start his brief MLB career. We’d expect the usual ups-and-downs for a rookie hitter, but his potential is off the charts.

Teoscar Hernández is not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Marlins.

Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts noted that it’s just a routine day of rest, as the team didn’t want the 33-year-old outfielder to play in three straight games on the turf in Miami. Josue De Paula will start in his place in left field and bat sixth for the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon.

It may be unrealistic to expect De Paula to blossom into an immediate fantasy superstar, but he’s that caliber of special talent as a hitter. The 21-year-old prodigy went 0-for-3 with a walk during his major-league debut on Friday night. He has a roughly two-week runway to show the Dodgers what he can do while Shohei Ohtani is on the injured list with knee and biceps issues. He does a phenomenal job of controlling the strike zone, makes a ton of contact and possesses elite raw power. Simply put, he checks almost every metaphorical box as a hitting prospect. He’s worthy of a speculative roster spot in all fantasy leagues based solely on his immense talent.

De Paula went hitless in three at-bats, and was also thrown out attempting to steal a base, out of the seventh spot in Los Angeles’ lineup. The 21-year-old top prospect will serve as the club’s primary DH while two-way star Shohei Ohtani is on the injured list. It might be unrealistic to expect him to make a significant fantasy impact right away, but he’s one of the most talented prospects in the entire sport and boasts significant power potential.

The 21-year-old phenom will make his MLB debut in Miami on Friday night where he’ll serve as the Dodgers’ designated hitter against the Marlins. De Paula has hit a blistering .303/.401/.547 with 27 homers and 31 stolen bases at Double-A Tulsa this season and has yet to play at the Triple-A level. He’s expected to play in all three games against the Marlins over the weekend.

Teoscar Hernández’s turnaround seemed to lessen the chances of a De Paula promotion, but maybe it’s Shohei Ohtani’s condition that has opened things back up. The 21-year-old De Paula has hit .303/.401/.547 with 27 homers and 31 steals in Double-A this year. He’s yet to play in Triple-A. The Dodgers will likely give him starts against right-handers in an effort to see if he can be useful in October.

Yankees optioned RHP Luis Gil to the FCL Yankees.

Gil walked four and allowed an unearned run on his own error in two hitless innings against the Rays on Thursday. Although he’s just two years removed from winning AL Rookie of the Year honors, it’s quite possible that Thursday’s outing will wind up being Gil’s swansong with the Yankees. He has a 4.61 ERA and a 17/18 K/BB in 27 1/3 major league innings this season.

He has an 8.59 ERA in 7 1/3 innings this season, and while there’s a slim chance he could be activated at some point during the postseason, he’s probably going to be removed from the Yankees’ 40-man roster in the offseason.

The Padres are now in line to host a Wild Card series, holding a one-game lead on the Cubs and a two-game lead on the Phillies. If the Padres and Cubs face off, it’ll be a rematch of last year’s series, won 2-1 by the Cubs. Tatis is up to 38 steals in 51 attempts. He’s sixth in the majors there, 12th with a .289 average and tied for 16th with 95 runs scored.

While he wasn’t in line for a win when he left, he could have gotten one had he finished the fifth, since the Padres took a lead in the top of the sixth and didn’t relinquish it. Pivetta has allowed three runs in 18 2/3 innings over four starts since returning from an elbow injury that cost him most of the year. He’s probably in line to start the second or third game of next week’s Wild Card series.

The Padres clinched a postseason berth tonight, so Miller should get Friday off after working back-to-back days. Yuki Matsui or David Morgan could get a chance to closer.

He figures to start Game 3 or 4 of the NLDS, depending on how Blake Snell is slotted in.

Ohtani’s two outs tonight were both barrels traveling a projected 382 and 372 feet. The RBI double was hit 106.8 mph to the gap in left center off a 102.6-mph fastball from Mason Miller in the ninth. That makes for a very encouraging night, even if he didn’t totally fill up the box score in his second game back from the IL.

Christian Moore doubled, singled and knocked in three runs in the Angels’ 6-4 win over the Mariners on Thursday.

Moore singled in one in the first on a fly to center that Julio Rodríguez really should have caught but got a late break on. In the fifth, Moore fanned on a bounced strike three, only to wind up on second after hustling his way to first and taking advantage of an incredibly poor throw from Cal Raleigh that went into left. Moore’s one good at-bat came the next inning, as he doubled off the wall in center to plate two. He hit the ball 403 feet, topping his previous season high of 389.

Grayson Rodriguez beat the Mariners despite allowing four runs and walking five in five innings Thursday.

Rodriguez struck out just two, but his performance was good enough with the Mariners having nothing to play for tonight. It’s his first win since Aug. 20, and he ends the year 5-8 with a 6.02 ERA. The Angels were 5-15 in all in his 20 starts. Still, acquiring him from the Orioles for Taylor Ward seems like a major win. He’s under control for three more years and won’t make all that much in his first year of arbitration in 2027. We wouldn’t want to bet on him being a mixed-league SP next year, but some improvement seems likely if he again remains relatively healthy.
