Ryan Weathers ‘looks healthy’ in live BP session

Weathers will get a chance to face Giancarlo Stanton (calves) and Trent Grisham (hamstring) in that session. The left-hander has not faced hitters since suffering his flexor strain near the end of August. He could be an option for the postseason, but there are no guarantees.

It sounds like there’s optimism Weathers will make it back before the end of the regular season after hitting the shelf with a flexor strain earlier this month. There should be an update regarding his next steps in the coming days. He’ll most likely operate out of New York’s bullpen for the postseason.

Weathers is working his way back from a flexor strain in his left forearm and will take a big step in his throwing progression this week. It seems unlikely he’ll make it back before the regular season concludes, but he should be an option at some point during the postseason, especially as a reliever.

Weathers is expected to throw a bullpen session early next week. There’s a chance he’s ready to contribute for the Yankees during their impending postseason run, but he’s going to be racing the clock to be ready. The 26-year-old has been out with a flexor strain sine late August.

Weathers, out since Aug. 23 with a flexor strain, might come off the IL as a reliever before season’s end.

That suggests that the Yankees could envision him returning in a bullpen role. He’ll be shut down from throwing for the next two-to-four weeks before starting to ramp back up after landing on the injured list with a left forearm flexor strain on Sunday.

Weathers was forced to exit Saturday’s start against the Blue Jays in the fourth inning due to the injury. While the severity of the strain is still not known, he’s going to miss a couple of weeks at a minimum and it’s possible that it could cost the 26-year-old southpaw the remainder of the 2026 season. Brendan Beck was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move on Sunday.

Weathers left with a trainer after recording one out and allowing three hits to open the fourth inning. He was charged with two runs on eight hits in the abbreviated outing. He struck out three and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 26-year-old southpaw is headed for additional evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue. He’s managed to avoid the injured list in his Yankees debut this season, but that appears to be in play given this latest development. He’s in obvious jeopardy of missing his next start against the Red Sox on Friday. There should be an update on his status later this weekend.

Not great. It’s unclear how much time Fried is going to miss, but it’s a massive concern for the Yankees, and fantasy managers, with less than six weeks left in the season. He was scheduled to start against the Orioles on Wednesday. The 32-year-old southpaw limited the Mariners to one run over five innings last Thursday in his fifth start back from the injured list after missing time for the same issue earlier this season. It’ll be Carlos Rodón (elbow) taking his spot in New York’s rotation, which means that neither Will Warren or Ryan Weathers are heading to the bullpen now.

Rodón returns to New York’s rotation for the first time since hitting the injured list with elbow inflammation back on July 3. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw recorded seven punchouts over 4 1/3 shutout frames for Double-A Somerset in his final rehab tune-up last week. He shouldn’t have any significant workload restrictions in his return from the injured list and should be rostered in all fantasy formats. His return bumps Will Warren back an additional day and figures to push hard-throwing southpaw Ryan Weathers into a relief role.
