Andy Pages smacked a go-ahead two-run single to lead the Dodgers to a 4-1 series-clinching win over the Braves in Game 4 of the NLDS on Wednesday.

Pages delievered the metaphorical knockout punch for Los Angeles, coming through with a two-run single on a full-count fastball from Atlanta veteran reliever Robert Suarez to put the Dodgers ahead and send their star-studded juggernaut back to the NLCS for the third consecutive season. His heroics were set up by two-out walks to Josue De Paula and Kyle Tucker that loaded the bases. Pages has been much maligned for his postseason struggles over the last two years, but he came through with four hits over the final two games of the series to send Atlanta packing.

Eric Samulski and James Schiano discuss Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s Game 3 benching, upcoming free agency and how his next move could impact his fantasy value.

Pages had a sac fly that accounted for the Dodgers’ only run over the first nine innings. He had a chance to break the game open with two on in the eighth, but he instead grounded into an inning-ending double play. He got another chance in the 10th after an Alex Call double gave the Dodgers the lead and essentially put the game away with his 23rd homer of the year. It was his second in six games since he returned from a fractured hand. He ends up at .274/.343/.468 with 85 RBI in 134 games.

He also stole a base, which gives him 13. Pages doubled the lead for the Dodgers with his 22nd homer of the season. It was also the 81st run driven in for the 25-year-old, who has shown flashes of potentially becoming a fantasy stalwart in the future.

It doesn’t qualify as a significant surprise to see Pages hitting towards the bottom of the order in his return from the injured list since he skipped a minor league rehab assignment on his way back from surgery to repair a left hand fracture. It’ll probably take him a couple games to knock off some of the rust, but Pages is probably worth rolling out there in deeper mixed leagues for the final week of the season.

Pages returns to Los Angeles’ lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Padres following a one-month absence recovering from surgery to address a left hand fracture. The 25-year-old fantasy standout was hitting .272/.338/.458 with 72 runs scored, 21 homers, 80 RBI and 12 steals in 550 plate appearances prior to the injury. He’s clearly worth rolling out there in most fantasy leagues based on his raw talent alone, but the Dodgers are presumably going to manage his workload closely during the final week of the regular season since he skipped a minor league rehab assignment altogether.

Pages will have missed a month with a fractured hand suffered on a HBP. His return will push Tommy Edman back to second base and Alex Freeland to the bench.
  • LAD Center Fielder #44
Pages is expected back from his fractured hand within the next few days. That’ll push Tommy Edman back to center and result in less playing time for Alex Freeland.

The Dodgers are home from Friday through next Wednesday, so Pages could be activated at any time during that stretch. The season ends for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, so if Pages is coming back without playing in rehab games, our best guess is that he returns early next week. Considering the 25-year-old fractured his hand on August 21st and will not have any rehab games before returning, it’s going to be tough to trust him in fantasy leagues for the final week of the season.

Pages is close to taking live batting practice, which would be the final step before getting back into game action again. The 25-year-old center fielder should make it back to Los Angeles for the start of the postseason after having surgery to repair a left hand fracture back in late August.

Pages has progressed to hitting off a batting tee for the last two days. The 25-year-old fantasy standout is attempting to make it back to Los Angeles’ lineup in time for the postseason after undergoing surgery to repair a left hand fracture in late August. There’s no reason for fantasy managers to hang onto him with less than three weeks left in the season.

Pages is going to need at least a couple weeks before he’s ready to return to Los Angeles’ lineup after undergoing surgery to repair a left hand fracture in late August. The widely-held expectation is that he’ll be ready for the start of the postseason. He can be safely dropped in all redraft fantasy formats.

MLB has proposed shortening the regular season from 162 to 154 games in CBA negotiations with the Players Association.

Also coming along with that would be the expansion of the Division Series from five to seven games, and the ability for high seeds to pick their opponents in the Wild Card and Division Series rounds.

Tyler Mahle said he’d “be crazy not to want to play” for the Atlanta Braves next season.

Mahle was a tremendous deadline acquisition for the Braves this year, pitching to a 1.99 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 48/9 K/BB ratio in 54 1/3 innings after the trade. He also allowed just three runs (two earned) on nine hits in 13 1/3 playoff innings while posting a 10/2 K/BB ratio. Increased reliance on his splitter and throwing more fastballs up in the zone were crucial to his success, so hopefully any team he signs with would try to replicate that.

Teruaki Sato won the Nippon Professional Baseball Triple Crown.

Sato is just the third NPB hitter to win a Triple Crown this century, with Munetaka Murakami winning the most recent won in 2022. The 27-year-old Sato hit .308/.385/.613 in 142 games with 39 home runs, 106 RBI, and eight steals. Sato is a potential target of MLB teams this offseason, pending what happens with labor negotiations, and Jon Heyman had reported in September that the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, and Phillies had all already been linked to the third baseman. Many people believe his MLB future, like Murakami, will be at first base, but he also has some experience in the corner outfield as well. Sato went 3-for-10 in this year’s World Baseball Classic with a double, three walks, and three batted balls hit over 100 mph.

Tyler Zuber will have internal brace surgery on his right elbow on October 12th.

Zuber was placed on the injured list during the final week of the season with a right elbow sprain. At the time, the team did not believe surgery would be needed, but that has obviously not borne out to be true. The 31-year-old will now miss the entire 2027 season as he recovers from surgery.

Jakob Marsee will have internal brace surgery on his left elbow on October 12th.

Marsee played in 155 games for the Marlins this season, so this is a bit of a surprise. Clearly, he was not playing healthy for a portion of those. The estimated recovery time for that injury is six months, which would be the middle of May. That means Marsee looks likely to miss at least the first month of the 2027 season, if not more.

Cardinals OF prospect Tai Peete went 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored, and three steals in Arizona Fall League action on Wednesday night.

Peete is a 2023 first-round pick of the Seattle Mariners who was traded to the Cardinals in the Brendan Donovan deal. He has gone 6-for-14 in three games in the AFL with a home run, two RBI, and three steals. On the season, he hit .296/.359/.549 in 66 games across two levels while registering 13 home runs and 16 steals. He ended the season with 21 games at Double-A and will likely begin 2027 there as well.

Garrett Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI as the Brewers bested the Padres 3-1 in Wednesday’s Game 4 to advance to the NLCS.

The league’s top two seeds will meet in the NLCS, with the Brewers getting home-field advantage over the Dodgers. Even bigger than his offensive contribution tonight was Mitchell taking away a two-run homer from Manny Machado in the eighth. He finished the series 4-for-15.

Robert Gasser threw four innings of one-run ball Thursday in the win over the Padres.

It wasn’t clear until this afternoon whether Gasser would get a start in the series, but he did and came through nicely in his first appearance since Sept. 25. Based on this and the way he ended the regular season — he had a 1.67 ERA in his final six starts — he probably ought to be ahead of Dustin May in line for a potential Game 3 start against the Dodgers.

Aaron Ashby kept the Padres hitless for three innings to pick up the win in relief in Wednesday’s Game 4.

Ashby has his first postseason victory after collecting 11 during the regular season. He pitched in three of the four games against the Brewers, turning in 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
