Rays manager Joe Maddon said that he expects B.J. Upton (back) and Desmond Jennings back in the lineup by Saturday.

Upton and Jennings were involved in a scary outfield collision during Wednesday’s game against the Marlins. Both players were carted off the field, but they were able to avoid any serious injuries. Upton has a little back soreness, but he should be good to go soon enough.

Povich had a solid start on Sunday against the Giants, but with Dean Kremer now up to take a spot in the rotation, the Orioles can send Povich back down to Triple-A. The left-hander should be the next man up if the Orioles need another starter.

Orioles recalled RHP Dean Kremer from Triple-A Norfolk.

Kremer allowed three runs on eight hits in 9 1/3 innings at Triple with a 12/2 K/BB ratio. He has been a consistent, low-ceiling option for fantasy managers in recent years, but is probably not worth a stream against the Diamondbacks in shallower formats.

Thomas White

MIA Starting Pitcher

Marlins LHP prospect Thomas White (oblique) is being promoted back to Triple-A Jacksonville.

White had a Grade 1 oblique strain at the beginning of March and was moved to Minor League Camp. He then started the season with Low-A Jupiter, throwing six innings across two starts while striking out 10 and walking six. He remains one of the better starting pitching prospects in baseball and could be up with the Marlins over the summer.

Gabriel Moreno

Gabriel Moreno (back) remains out of the lineup on Monday against the Orioles.

This is now the third straight game Moreno has missed. It had previously been reported that he would wind up on the injured list, but, so far, the Diamondbacks have not decided to make that move. Instead, Adrian Del Castillo will start behind the dish and bat fourth, which will allow Jose Fernandez to bat fifth and be the designated hitter.

Yordan Alvarez

HOU Left Fielder #44

Yordan Alvarez will start in left field and bat second against the Mariners on Monday.

This will now be Alvarez’s fifth start in the outfield this season, which means he will have outfield eligibility in certain fantasy formats. That’s not only great for his fantasy managers, but this has continued to allow Isaac Paredes to get in the lineup at designated hitter. The question will be how long this experiment lasts, given Alvarez’s injury history.

Evan Sisk

PIT Relief Pitcher

Pirates recalled LHP Evan Sisk from Triple-A Indianapolis.

With Hunter Barco going back to the minors, Sisk will come up to be a multi-inning left-hander reliever for the Piraes. He came to the Pirates at the trade deadline last year as part of the Bailey Falter trade. The 28-year-old had a 3.57 ERA and a 25/10 K/BB ratio in 17 2/3 MLB innings and had allowed just one earned run in 7 2/3 innings at Triple-A with a 14/7 K/BB ratio.

Hunter Barco

PIT Starting Pitcher #45

Pirates have optioned LHP Hunter Barco to Triple-A Indianapolis

Barco looks good this spring, but has had a rough go as a long reliever to open the season, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in seven innings with a 5/7 K/BB ratio. It makes sense for him to go back down to the minors and get stretched out to work as a starter again.

Jeremy Peña

HOU Shortstop #3
Astros placed SS Jeremy Peña on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 12, with a hamstring strain.

Peña’s injury was originally described as knee tightness, but now the Astros are saying it’s a grade one hamstring strain. That’s not ideal, but Peña still might make it back around the end of the month. Until then, the Astros will be able to play Isaac Paredes and the rest of their infielders regularly, with Carlos Correa starting at short. Joey Loperfido figures to get more time in left with Yordan Alvarez DHing most games.
