This was a compensation pick for not signing Phil Bickford after drafting him 10th overall last year. Pentecost is a true catcher, but also a fine athlete with good speed. The questions about his bat kept him out of the top 10 tonight, but he could be a solid regular two or three years down the line. He did hit .423/.483/.631 this season, but that was against lesser competition in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The 29-year-old hurler earns a spot on the team’s 40-man roster, but he doesn’t win a spot in the club’s Opening Day bullpen. He’ll start out the season as extra depth at the Triple-A level and should be the next man up when the Guardians need a fresh arm.

Orioles’ manager Craig Albernaz announced his rotation to open the 2026 season on Sunday, with Kyle Bradish set to follow Trevor Rogers.

Rogers had already been announced as the Opening Day starter. Bradish will pitch on Saturday against the Twins with Shane Baz working the finale of that opening series. Chris Bassitt and Zach Eflin will then work the first two games against the Rangers.

Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza announced Sunday that Mike Tauchman has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus in his right knee and will require surgery.

It’s a tough break for Tauchman who was having an outstanding spring and was well on his way to making the Mets’ Opening Day roster. The 35-year-old outfielder is going to be sidelined for at least 4-6 weeks. That paves the way for Carson Benge to open the season as the team’s starting right fielder.

Craig Kimbrel

NYM Relief Pitcher #46

The Mets have informed veteran right-hander Craig Kimbrel that he will not make the team’s Opening Day roster.

It’s unclear if the 37-year-old hurler will be willing to go to Triple-A Syracuse until there’s a need at the big league level or if he’ll want to explore opportunities elsewhere instead. Kimbrel posted a 4.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 5/5 K/BB ratio over six innings during six Grapefruit League appearances.

Alika Williams

PIT Shortstop #25
Pirates optioned C Rafael Flores and RHP Cam Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis. Reassigned INF Alika Williams, LHP Joe La Sorsa and RHPs Chris Devenski and Carson Fulmer to minor league camp.

On the pitching side, Devenski had a shot at making the team’s Opening Day bullpen, but struggled to a 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 5 1/3 innings during Grapefruit League play. Williams had a solid spring offensively, hitting .258 (8-for-31) with a homer and seven RBI, but that wasn’t enough to secure a spot on the Pirates’ Opening Day bench.

Trey Yesavage

TOR Starting Pitcher #39

Trey Yesavage (shoulder) is scheduled to start a minor league game on Wednesday.

The Blue Jays are taking every possible precaution while building up the 22-year-old hurler as he has battled a shoulder impingement this spring. He’s going to require a lengthy ramp up and the team has yet to give any sort of timeline on when he may be able to join the Jays’ rotation.

Jeremy Peña

HOU Shortstop #3

Astros’ skipper Joe Espada told reporters on Sunday that he has yet to rule out Jeremy Peña (finger) for Opening Day.

The 28-year-old took batting practice on the field once again on Sunday without issue and participated in fielding drills. He has made quick work in his recovery from a fractured ring finger and it’s starting to sound increasingly likely that he’ll be in the Astros’ lineup when the regular season begins.

Mike Burrows

HOU Starting Pitcher #50

Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Sunday that Mike Burrows will pitch the second game of the regular season against the Angels.

He’ll follow Hunter Brown who draws the Opening Day assignment for the Astros. The rest of the rotation has yet to be announced, though Tatsuya Imai will certainly be in there somewhere. Burrows had a brilliant spring, allowing just three runs while posting a 17/6 K/BB ratio over 18 innings of work.

Kyle Stowers

MIA Left Fielder #28

Kyle Stowers will open the season on the 15-day injured list after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

Stowers is expected to be shelved for 3-4 weeks. He had battled hamstring issues early on during spring training and then aggravated it again during Friday’s Grapefruit League contest against the Astros. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect to have him in lineups until the end of April.

Esteury Ruiz

MIA Left Fielder #3

Esteury Ruiz has been diagnosed with a high-grade left oblique strain and is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.

The 27-year-old speedster will open the season on the injured list and isn’t likely to be an option for the Marlins until the end of May. He suffered the injury on an awkward swing during Friday’s Grapefruit League contest. It’s a tough break, as he was trending towards cracking the team’s Opening Day roster.
