Diamondbacks RHP prospect Matt Tabor allowed just a hit over four scoreless innings on Sunday for Low-A Kane County.
It was the first appearance of the year for Tabor, and it went exceptionally. He didn’t walk anyone, and he was able to fan seven for the Cougars. A third-round pick in 2017, Tabor has a plus fastball and change combination that could make him an excellent reliever if Arizona went that route, but he’s made enough progress with his breaking-ball to project him as a potential starter. He also throws strikes with all three offerings, but the command is considerably behind. Tabor could be a closer someday, but for now, he projects as a mid-rotation starter. He could be more than that if the slider takes another step up.
