Francisco Liriano got four outs Wednesday and has yet to give up a run in 5 1/3 innings this spring.
Liriano seems poised to serve as the second lefty in the Toronto pen. He had a 3.47 ERA in his first full year as a reliever for the Pirates in 2019 before sitting out last year.

Tigers optioned LHP Jake Miller to Triple-A Toledo.
Miller is recovering from a hip injury in 2025, but was able to post a 2.12 ERA in 17 innings across four starts at Double-A last season. The 2022 eighth round pick will look to build on that and put together a healthy season in 2026.
Langford, Rooker can pay off big-time in fantasy
Eric Samulski and James Schiano dive into the outfielders picked in mid to late rounds that could hit big in fantasy baseball.
  • DET Catcher #80
Tigers reassigned C Josue Briceño, OF Ben Malgeri, and RHP Matt Seelinger to minor league camp.
Briceño is one of the top prospects in the Tigers’ system, but he will be sidelined for a few months after wrist surgery. Malgeri made it as high as Double-A last year, while Seelinger had a solid season, posting a 2.74 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 75/25 K/BB ratio in 65 2/3 innings out of the bullpen at Double-A and Triple-A.
  • AZ Right Fielder #7
Corbin Carroll (hamate surgery) has been taking live at-bats as he works back from surgery.
Carroll has said he plans to play on Opening Day, which would certainly bode well for him. We assume the Diamondbacks will see how his hand feels after facing live pitching on Friday, and then make a decision on when he could get back into Cactus League games. We should still expect a bit of power regression for Carroll coming off the hamate surgery, but the rest of his profile should remain solid.
  • LAA 3rd Baseman #10
Yoán Moncada went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Cuba’s 3-1 win over Panama in the World Baseball Classic on Friday.
Moncada hit a 370-foot blast in the third inning to put Cuba up 3-0 at the time. He also had a 103.4 mph groundout, giving him two of the eight hardest hit balls in the contest. Moncada claims he has dropped 20 pounds during the offseason to stay healthy this year. He will begin the season as the starting third baseman for the Angels and could be worth a roll of the dice in AL-only leagues or deeper fantasy formats.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #77
Angels optioned LHP Jayvien Sandridge to minor league camp.
Sandridge was acquired from the Yankees at the end of January. He had a 4.55 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 47/17 K/BB ratio in 31 2/3 innings at Triple-A for the Yankees last season. Even if he starts at Triple-A, there is a good chance that he sees MLB innings this season.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #65
Angels optioned RHP José Fermin to minor league camp.
Fermin had a 4.46 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 39/23 K/BB ratio in 34 1/3 innings for the Angels last season. The 24-year-old could begin this year at Triple-A.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #95
Guardians optioned RHP Yorman Gómez to minor league camp.
Gómez posted a 2.96 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 139/48 K/BB ratio in 121 2/3 innings split between the rotation and bullpen in High-A and Double-A last season. The 22-year-old spent the majority of Double-A in the starting rotation, so it seems like the Guardians may be trying to move him there.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #80
Guardians optioned RHP Austin Peterson to Minor League camp.
Peterson posted a 3.21 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 127/40 K/BB ratio in 145 2/3 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A last season. The 26-year-old will likely start the season at Triple-A, but the Guardians are not settled on that yet, it seems. The team also reassigned RHPs Tanner Burns, Trenton Denholm, Tommy Mace, Aaron Davenport, and C Cameron Barstad to Minor League camp.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #36
Clarke Schmidt mentioned that he believes a new sweeper led to his elbow injury, and he will stop throwing the pitch.
Schmidt said that he and the Yankees’ pitching department worked together to break his one sweeper up into two distinct breaking balls, including a new one that was “designed to give him more horizontal break and a better weapon against righties.” The pitch did that, but it also required Schmidt to “grip it really hard” and “torque it,” which caused the 30-year-old to have a tough time recovering in between his starts. He was then forced to undergo elbow surgery in July. He likely won’t return until the end of the summer, but he claims that he will stick to “his old sweeper grip and will definitely ditch the newer one.” That could lead to fewer strikeouts for Schmidt but more long-term health.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña (finger) claims his “goal is to try to be ready by Opening Day.”
Peña fractured the tip of his finger earlier this week, but doesn’t feel that the injury will keep him out long. “I don’t know how it’s going to heal, I don’t know what the process is going to be like, but the goal is always to try to join the team for Opening Day.” We’re trying not to be influenced by the Astros’ poor track record with player return timelines in recent seasons, but we’d consider it a long shot that Peña is ready on Opening Day. The hope is that he plays not long after.
