James didn’t pitch last year after being non-tendered by the Astros following flexor tendon surgery. There are some real durability concerns, but the hard-throwing 30-year-old righty misses a ton of bats and represents an interesting low-risk lottery ticket for the Cardinals. It’ll be interesting to see how he looks in a few weeks during Grapefruit League action.

Logan Webb (knee) will start on Friday against the Rockies.

Giants manager Tony Vitello confirmed Webb will take the ball later this week in his return from the injured list after missing just over three weeks with right knee bursitis. The 29-year-old upper-echelon fantasy starter was hit hard in his first couple outings, but remains one of the more durable workhorses in the game. He’ll face a tough matchup right out of the gate at hitter-friendly Coors Field, but he’s worth the risk in nearly every fantasy formats imaginable.

TJ Rumfield

COL 1st Baseman
TJ Rumfield (hand) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Dodgers.

The positive news here is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and Rumfield appears to have avoided serious injury after taking a pitch off his right hand during Monday’s series opener. The 26-year-old figures to get a couple extra days off to rest and recover this week. It’ll be Willi Castro taking over at first base on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Kyle Schwarber

Kyle Schwarber is hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Padres.

Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly has flipped Schwarber and Trea Turner on his lineup card. It’s something the club has done in the past and doesn’t carry massive fantasy ramifications. Schwarber launched his big league-leading 21st round-tripper during Monday’s series opener and has gone deep 10 times in 20 games since the start of May.

Hunter Brown

HOU Starting Pitcher #58

Hunter Brown (shoulder) will make his next minor league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Sugar Land.

Brown will make at least one additional rehab start before returning to Houston’s rotation. The 27-year-old fantasy ace struck out five over two scoreless innings in his first rehab outing for Double-A Corpus Christi last weekend. The hope is that he’ll be ready to return by early June.

HOU 2nd Baseman #27

Jose Altuve (oblique) has resumed swinging a bat.

Altuve is starting to make some real progress after hitting the injured list with a left oblique strain last week. The 36-year-old second baseman will continue ramping up baseball activities and should be ready to head out on a minor league rehab assignment at some point in early June.

Garrett Crochet

BOS Starting Pitcher #35

Garrett Crochet (shoulder) faced hitters on Tuesday in a live batting practice session.

The next step for Crochet will be a minor league rehab start, likely this weekend, at either Double-A Portland or Triple-A Worcester. The 26-year-old ace figures to be ready to return to Boston’s rotation at some point in early-to-mid June. He’s been out since late April working his way back from shoulder inflammation.

ATL Left Fielder #28

Azócar returns to Atlanta as emergency organizational depth after spending a couple days testing the free agent waters. The 30-year-old journeyman has gone 5-for-15 with a stolen base in nine games for the Braves this season. He’ll head to Triple-A Gwinnett to wait for his next opportunity.

Evan Phillips (elbow) progressed to facing hitters in a live batting practice session on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium.

Phillips progressed to facing hitters for the third time since last year’s Tommy John surgery. He got in a pair of appearances earlier this month at extended spring training out in Arizona. The 31-year-old former closer figures to be ready to rejoin Los Angeles’ high-leverage mix at some point around midseason.

Luis Robert Jr.

NYM Center Fielder #88
Mets transferred OF Luis Robert Jr. to the 60-day injured list.

The procedural move frees up a spot on New York’s 40-man roster and will keep Robert on the shelf until at least late June. The 28-year-old center fielder has been progressing slowly in his recovery from a herniated disc in his back that put him on the injured list on April 30. There is no timetable for his return as he remains shut down from baseball activities. His extended absence gives top prospect A.J. Ewing some additional runway at the highest level.
