Hickey also impressed on the basepaths today, taking second on the throw home on the single and then racing around to score on Dalton Guthrie’s single to right with two outs. Guthrie, who is quite a bit faster than Hickey, wound up getting thrown out at second trying to stretch the single, but Hickey hustled all of the way and scored the run before Guthrie was tagged. Hickey is 3-for-4 this spring. The University of Florida prospect hit .265/.362/.496 between high-A and Double-A last year, but questions about his defense behind the plate have dogged him as a prospect.

However, Stammen uses the term “for now” when discussing Sheets’ decision to now have surgery, which is a bit foreboding. If he doesn’t improve by December or January, he may be forced to opt for a surgical route, which could impact his status for next season.

The Orioles want him to make up for those lost at-bats in the fall league, and Irish has been crushing the ball, leading the AFL in hits and home runs. He’s now 11-for-26 (.423) with two home runs, five RBI, and two steals.

Bonemer, who had started playing the outfield this fall, started in left field in this one. The 43rd overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft hit .251/.380/.550 with 37 home runs, 92 RBI, and 17 steals across two levels this season, ending the year with 71 games at Double-A. He will likely begin the season at Double-A, but the White Sox have shown a willingness to be aggressive with their prospects, so there is a chance that we could see Bonemer up in Triple-A early in the season, which would open up the possibility for him to make his MLB debut at some point in 2027.
