Altuve’s third hit of the game would drive in an insurance run in the seventh. Skubal allowed four hits, struck out six and walked two in his first start since the blockbuster trade sent him from the Tigers to the Dodgers. He gave up a solo homer to Dansby Swanson in the third, and then an infield single from Nico Hoerner gave the Cubs a 2-1 lead in the sixth. His velocity was up over half a mile on both his four-seam fastball and sinker, and it’s feasible Skubal was just a little too amped with some command struggles at times. Still, a solid start for Skubal, and more often than not, this is gonna get it done behind the Dodgers’ lineup. He gets the Royals on Tuesday.

Trammell got his ninth start in a row on Tuesday. He drew a walk and scored a run in the fourth inning before giving the Astros a four-run lead with a three-run blast off Chad Dallas in the fifth. The 28-year-old outfielder is hitting .238/.327/.411 with six homers, 23 runs scored, 19 RBI, and three steals across 172 plate appearances.

Wesneski held the Blue Jays scoreless through four innings until he gave up a pair of runs on two hits and a wild pitch in the fifth. That would be all the damage Toronto could do as he returned for a scoreless sixth to complete a quality start on his way to a win. Wesneski tossed 51 of 78 pitches for strikes and collected four strikeouts. The 28-year-old right-hander has given up five runs with an 8/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings across two starts. He’ll look to keep it going on Monday against the Giants in San Francisco.

Bell’s homer came in the eighth inning, and it still left the Twins trailing 5-2. The 33-year-old has homered 14 times and driven in 64 runs over 109 games with the Twins in his first — potentially last — season in Minnesota.
