Tayron Guerrero signed a one-year deal with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Nippon Professional Baseball.

The deal will pay the 6-foot-8 right-hander $600,000. Guerrero will head overseas after spending 2024 in the Angels’ organization. The 33-year-old could be back with an MLB club with a strong showing overseas, but he hasn’t pitched in the majors in five years.

Luis Castillo allowed four earned runs over five innings while striking out for, picking up the loss on Friday against the Rays.

Castillo escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first inning when he induced Victor Mesa Jr. to pop out, ending the threat. The Rays would score their first run of the night off Castillo in the third inning when Chandler Simpson singled to drive home Junior Caminero, and Richie Palacios would homer in the next inning to put the Rays up 2-0. Castillo would surrender two more solo homers in the fifth inning before being pulled to start the sixth, tying a career-high with three homers allowed in this one. Its been a forgettable season thus far for Castillo, who enters the All-Star Break with a 3-8 record and a 4.93 ERA.

Parker Messick delivered another excellent start in Friday night’s victory over the Marlins, allowing just one run on one hit over six stellar frames.

Messick also issued four walks on the evening while striking out one. He carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning where Heriberto Hernández tagged him for a solo home run. That would be the only hit that he would allow. He generated eight swings and misses on 91 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 23 percent. The 25-year-old southpaw wraps up a brilliant first half with an 8-5 record, 2.73 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 110/36 K/BB ratio over 112 innings through his first 19 starts.

Junior Caminero went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, and two RBI in Friday’s win over the Mariners.

After taking a brief four-day hiatus from hitting homers, Caminero has now homered in back-to-back games. The slugger belted his 28th homer of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the Rays up 6-2, as he continues to tear the cover off the ball. He’ll look to homer in his third-straight game when the two teams face off on Saturday.

Heriberto Hernández went 1-for-3 and slugged his 13th home run of the season on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough to power the Marlins past the Guardians.

Hernández got the Marlins’ first hit in the ballgame with his 380-foot (99.6-mph EV) solo shot off of Parker Messick in the sixth inning. The 26-year-old outfielder also drew a walk in the contest. He has provided solid power production for the Marlins this season, slashing .236/.318/.482 with 13 homers and 36 RBI in 220 plate appearances.

Sandy Alcantara pitched well in a losing effort against the Guardians on Friday evening, allowing three runs on five hits across seven strong innings.

Alcantara struck out eight batters in the ballgame and didn’t allow a single base on balls. He cruised through the first three innings unscathed, but Chase DeLauter got him for a two-run blast in the fourth inning and the Guardians scratched out an additional run in the fifth that ultimately did him in. He got 13 swings and misses on 99 pitches in the game — six on his cutter — while posting a CSW of 32 percent. He finishes the first half of the season with a 10-5 record, 3.99 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 100/33 K/BB ratio over 130 2/3 innings through his first 20 starts.

Nick Martinez allowed two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings while striking out one to pick up the win on Friday against the Mariners.

It was another solid outing for Martinez, who pitched four straight frames of scoreless ball before Mariners second baseman Cole Young put the Mariners on the board with his 11th homer of the season in the top of the fifth inning. Martinez would be pulled with runners on the corners and one out in the sixth inning and was charged with a second earned run when J.P. Crawford came in to score on a fielder’s choice. Martinez induced plenty of weak contact on the night while striking out just one batter, and has now held opposing teams to two earned runs or less in three straight games. Martinez has been a pleasant surprise for the Rays through the first half of the season. He enters the All-Star break with an 8-2 record and a 2.61 ERA.

Caglianone smacked his 15th homer of the season in the top of the fourth inning, leading off the frame with a 389-foot shot off Orioles starter Brandon Young. Friday’s homer marked the first of the month for Caglianone, who has now hit safely in five straight games and is slashing .256/.250/.410 in July with four extra-base hits.

Luinder Avila allowed three earned runs over five innings while striking out three, earning a no-decision in Friday’s loss to the Orioles.

The Orioles got to Avila a bit in the second inning, lacing four singles off the righty to drive in two runs and give the O’s an early 2-0 lead. Avila would make it through the third inning without any damage, but gave up a 450-foot homer to Blaze Alexander in the fourth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie after the Royals plated two runs of their own in the top of the frame. Avila would pitch a scoreless fifth inning before being pulled to begin the sixth. Despite an inflated 5.08 ERA at the All-Star Break, Avila has been solid as of late for the Royals, allowing three earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts.

Samuel Basallo went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in Friday’s win over the Royals.

Basallo came up big for the Orioles in the bottom of the eighth inning. Facing Matt Strahm in a left-on-left matchup and with a runner on first, Basallo got a piece of a high and inside slider from Strahm, lacing it down the right field line for a two-run homer to put the O’s up 5-3. It was the 15th homer of the season for Basallo, who has now homered three times in his last seven games. The 21-year-old lefty isn’t hitting for much of an average this month, slashing just .167/.259/.542 in July, but he’s making the most of the balls he puts in play.

Brandon Young allowed three earned runs over seven innings while striking out five, picking up a no-decision in Friday’s win over the Royals.

Young kept the Royals off the board through the first three innings, striking out three batters over that span. In the top of the fourth inning, Home Run Derby participant Jac Caglianone smashed a 389-foot solo homer to kick off the inning, cutting the Orioles’ lead to 2-1. A few batters later, Young would allow a walk to Michael Massey, who would later come around to score on an RBI double by Josh Rojas to tie the game. Young would get out of the inning and throw three straight scoreless innings before Isaac Collins got the best of him to lead off the eighth, sending a solo homer to deep center to tie the game at 3-3. It’s a disappointing way to pick up a no-decision. Young needed just 85 pitches to get through seven innings and struck out five or more batters for the fifth straight game. The righty enters the All-Star Break with an impressive 7-2 record and a 3.42 ERA.
