Lopez was a solid contributor in 2024 with a 2.89 ERA and 50/19 K/BB in his work for the Cubs and Mets in 2024. The right-hander stands a good chance to earn saves at this point, but fantasy managers will want to see what else the Nats do before assuming he’s worthy of a draft selection.

The Yankees will be send the Nationals four pitchers in exchange for Garcia according to Spencer Nusbaum of the Washington Post: right-handers Ben Grable, Yovanny Cruz, Jack Cebert, and Jake Bird. The 26-year-old has had a breakout season in 2026 23 homers and an .873 OPS over 374 plate appearances, and gives the Yankees a needed boost to their lineup. He’s played exclusively first base in 2026, but he’s played both second base and shortstop at times with the Nationals. It seems more likely that he’ll be lining up at the cold corner than those positions than up the middle with New York.

While Alcantara doesn’t like coming out of shutouts, he wasn’t nearly at his most efficient today, throwing 102 pitches to get his 18 outs. He gave up a single and a double before being pulled in the seventh, but Michael Petersen entered then and stranded both runners by striking out two and then getting a groundout. Alcantara moved to 12-6 with a 3.68 ERA. All signs point to the Marlins keeping him at the deadline and picking up his $21 million option for 2027 after the season. He’s due to face the Angels next Saturday.

That Fairbanks is a trade candidate didn’t stop the Marlins from using him for the fourth time in six days today. He’s pitched scoreless innings for saves in all four of those appearances, lowering his ERA from 7.18 to 6.37. The Marlins are off Monday, so they won’t have to worry about a closer then.

Unfortunately, that resulted in a loss in a 2-0 game. Stock, though, acquitted himself nicely in allowing only three hits, walking none and striking out four. He topped out at 98 mph, which is pretty good for someone most thought was going to miss the season after being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome in March. Assuming that he sticks around, he’ll face the Pirates next weekend.

Mack is up to 11 homers in 67 games as a major leaguer. More surprising, though, is his .245 batting average. Known for his defense and for having decent pop, he batted just .239 in his six minor league seasons, and most actually find it more difficult to hit in the majors than in the minors.

As the lone Met to bat five times, he flew out with the tying run on to end the 2-0 loss today. While he’s gone 5-for-5 stealing bases, Ewing is hitting .222/.271/.270 with 18 strikeouts in 15 games in the second half. The Mets need to keep playing him, but he might not be their best option in the leadoff spot right now.

Davitt was just recalled for Sunday’s game, and he he gave up a run on two hits in his inning of work; although he did pick up his first MLB strikeout in the process. He could be back before the end of 2026, but it’s far from a guarantee.

It will open a spot on the 40-man and active roster for Freddy Peralta. The former All-Star closer has pitched decently with Tampa Bay with a 3.96 ERA over 19 appearances, but unfortunately he’s now a very expendable part of a roster. if he goes unclaimed or untraded, he can elect free agency or report to Triple-A.

Ohtani has not pitched since July 3, and probably won’t be able to return to the rotation for another week-plus or so, at earliest. Roberts did confirm that even with the acquisition of Tarik Skubal, the plan is for Ohtani to resume pitching. The next step for the 32-year-old after playing catch will be a bullpen session or two.

Varland was called on to pitch the ninth in a 1-1 game and immediately allowed a walk and two singles to score one run. After getting the next two batters out, Varland induced a ground ball to second base, where Luis Urias committed a throwing error. One run would score on that play, and two more would come around to score when the next batter, Jordan Walker, hit a two-out single. Varland still has a pristine 1.11 ERA in 57 innings this season.
