With Caleb Thielbar away on paternity leave, Cosgrove will provide the Cubs with a fresh arm in their bullpen for their weekend set against the Mets. Cosgrove has made one appearance with the Cubs this season, firing a pair of scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

The 24-year-old outfielder has spent the entire season at Triple-A Rochester where he has slashed just .215/.304/.289 with two homers, 21 RBI, eight stolen bases and a 67/28 K/BB ratio across 258 plate appearances. Even with his constant struggles at the plate, you’d have to think that there are going to be teams willing to take a chance on the former top prospect on waivers.

It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 25-year-old right-hander. Yean made 39 appearances out of the bullpen at Triple-A Rochester, registering a 3.60 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and a 45/19 K/BB ratio across 40 innings of work. He’ll function in a middle relief role for the Nationals.

Antonetti noted that Ramírez has progressed as planned in his recovery from surgery to repair a fractured left hamate bone, but that he still has boxes to check before he’s going to be able to return to game action. The expectation is that he’ll start to face overhead pitching soon. Ramírez was given an initial timeline of 5-7 weeks when he hit the injured list three weeks ago on June 14.

The Phillies needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to bring back Bryan De La Cruz on Sunday and unfortunately for Cabrera he drew the short straw this time. The 24-year-old right-hander has been abysmal in the minor leagues this season, posting a 9.10 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and a 46/32 K/BB ratio over 62 1/3 innings in 15 starts between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. It seems likely he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and remain with the Phillies.

De La Cruz exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Phillies, so the club did what they had to do in order to bring him back and keep him in the organization as quality outfield depth. The 29-year-old has hit .254/.343/.426 with 12 homers and 51 RBI in 328 plate appearances at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season.

Osuna had started every game this week in left field, so he’ll get a breather for Sunday’s tilt against the Tigers. Josh Smith will start in his place and will bat seventh for the Rangers against right-hander Casey Mize.

The 36-year-old slugger missed each of the team’s previous three games due to soreness in his right elbow. He’s back in there as the designated hitter on Sunday though, batting sixth against Phillies’ right-hander Aaron Nola. Perez owns a disappointing .201/.241/.327 slash line on the season with 10 long balls and 30 RBI in his 340 plate appearances.

Once again Basallo will take a seat with an opposing left-hander on the mound. Coby Mayo will serve as the team’s designated hitter in his place on Sunday and will bat fifth against Reds’ left-hander Nick Lodolo.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day off for the Guardians’ shortstop. Daniel Schneemann will start in his place and will bat seventh against White Sox’ southpaw Chris Murphy on Sunday in Cleveland.

The Yankees haven’t said that Goldschmidt is dealing with any sort of physical issue, but this is the third time that he has been held out of the lineup in the last four games, so it’s possible that there’s something minor going on there. It’s also possible that they wanted to give him a couple days to clear his head after scuffling a bit at the plate over the last few weeks. Jasson Dominguez will serve as the team’s designated hitter on Sunday with Max Schuemann drawing a start in right field and batting seventh against Twins’ right-hander Joe Ryan.
