Fernando Tatis Jr. blasted a leadoff home run on Sunday, accounting for the entirety of the Padres’ offense in a loss to the Mariners.
The 26-year-old superstar crushed an 0-2 sweeper from Mariners’ right-hander Bryan Woo for a 398-foot (103.4 mph EV) solo shot that gave the Padres an early 1-0 edge. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the afternoon. For the season, Tatis is slashing an impressive .304/.375/.561 with 12 homers, 27 RBI and eight stolen bases.

Brandon Lowe went 2-for-2 with a walk Friday in the Pirates’ 6-1 defeat of the Orioles.
Lowe hit second today, as he’s done in all three of his starts this spring. It seems like the wrong call for someone who projects as poorly in terms of OBP as anyone in the Pirates lineup, but then Lowe is a second baseman and who doesn’t love a second baseman batting second? At least Lowe is a quality bat in spite of his OBPs, having come in at .241/.314/.453 over the last four years.
Target Abreu late for fantasy RP amid Hader injury
Eric Samulski and James Schiano look at the 'landmine-y' world of fantasy relief pitchers and explain why Josh Hader's injury gives Bryan Abreu a massive boost in value.
  • PIT Pitcher #23
Mitch Keller fanned four in 2 1/3 scoreless innings Friday against the Orioles.
Keller got three of the four strikeouts with his sweeper, though he also gave up doubles both times that pitch was put into play. He’s yet to allow a run in 4 1/3 innings this spring and is now up to six strikeouts.
  • BAL Pitcher #34
Shane Baz turned in 2 1/3 hitless innings and struck out four Friday against the Pirates.
Baz walked two, but he has to be happy about his 39-pitch spring debut. Although he has a worse track record than the Orioles’ other five starters, there seems to be little doubt about Baz’s rotation status after Baltimore gave up four prospects and a draft pick to acquire him from the Rays. He has a chance to offer some mixed-league value.
  • BAL Pitcher #63
Brandon Young dealt with back tightness while throwing two scoreless innings Friday against the Pirates.
Young finished the outing after being checked on by the trainer, and he was declared fine after the game. Young figures to open this season in Triple-A after posting a 6.24 ERA in 12 starts as a rookie last season.
  • PIT Shortstop #85
Konnor Griffin went 0-for-2 as the Pirates’ No. 8 hitter on Friday.
Griffin had a 108-mph groundout and a 100-mph lineout to right, so even if the results weren’t there, it was a decent day for the 19-year-old. So far, the two homers he hit Tuesday are his only hits in 11 at-bats.
  • NYM Shortstop #16
Grae Kessinger will head for an MRI exam after suffering a left knee injury on Friday.
Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza noted that it “didn’t look too good”, so the expectation is that Kessinger is going to miss some time. The versatile 28-year-old infielder had been in the mix to see time at shortstop if Francisco Lindor (wrist) is forced to begin the season on the injured list. Look for the Mets to provide an update on his status after they get the results of that imaging.
  • LAD Pitcher #7
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts acknowledged on Friday that it’s unlikely Blake Snell (shoulder) will be ready in time for Opening Day.
Roberts told reporters that the 33-year-old southpaw is making progress in his throwing progression, there’s just not enough time left in the calendar for him to fully ramp up before the start of the regular season. Expect the Dodgers to continue to take a cautious approach here, as their only concern is that Snell is healthy and ready to go in October.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #93
Dodgers signed RHP Keynan Middleton to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 32-year-old hurler hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2023 season. He missed almost the entirety of the past two seasons while recovering from surgery, pitching just 3 2/3 scoreless innings with the Long Island Ducks of the Independent Atlantic League at the end of 2025. When healthy though, he has proven to be a reliable bullpen arm, and he adds extra depth to an already loaded Dodgers’ bullpen.
  • SF Designated Hitter #16
Rafael Devers was scratched from Friday’s game against the Dodgers with a tight hamstring.
We’re still in February, so there is plenty of time before Opening Day. This seems like a minor issue that the Giants hope will be cleared up in a couple of days.
  • BOS Right Fielder #19
Roman Anthony and Ceddanne Rafaela collided in the outfield on Friday against the Braves, but both players are uninjured.
Anthony and Rafaela slammed their hips into one another in left field and were both down on the ground for an extended period of time. However, they were not only able to stay in the game, but Anthony later singled and was driven in on a two-run home run by Rafaela. It seems the Red Sox avoided a potential disaster here.
