Taylor Walls (groin) came off the bench as a pinch-runner during Friday’s win over the Blue Jays.

Walls came on to run in the seventh inning of Friday’s contest, and stayed in to play shortstop, after being left off the lineup card for two straight games due to a minor groin issue. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern at the moment. The 28-year-old is an excellent defender, but offers very little at the dish. He’ll likely continue to cede time to José Caballero moving forward until top prospect Carson Willams is ready to arrive in Tampa Bay.

Thairo Estrada

Rockies placed INF Thairo Estrada on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 11, with a left thumb sprain.

On the day that the Rockies get their starting shortstop back from the injured list, the other half of their double play combination lands on the injured list with a left thumb sprain. That will spare Ryan Ritter from a demotion to Triple-A Albuquerque for at least a few days. The Rockies are hopeful that Estrada won’t require much longer than a minimum stint on the injured list.

Rockies activated INF Ezequiel Tovar from the 10-day injured list.

The 23-year-old shortstop will make his triumphant return to the Rockies’ lineup for Friday night’s second-half opener against the Twins. Before landing on the injured list with a left oblique strain in early June he had been hitting .258/.301/.406 with three homers, 10 RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first 138 plate appearances on the season.

Edward Cabrera

MIA Starting Pitcher #27

Edward Cabrera (elbow) threw a side session in Miami without issue on Thursday and has been cleared to make his next scheduled start.

The 27-year-old hurler isn’t lined up to start during the first series of the second half against the Royals, but he will slot into the Marlins’ rotation during next week’s series against the Padres — most likely on Tuesday. Fantasy managers who had been waiting patiently on an update on Cabrera can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Max Fried

NYY Starting Pitcher #54

Max Fried (blister) told reporters on Friday that he has felt good playing catch since his blister issue popped up and he’s hopeful that he’ll be able to start during the team’s upcoming series against the Blue Jays.

Fried had been scheduled to start the second half opener on Friday night, but he and the Yankees wanted to give his blister a few extra days to calm down. It sounds like if he continues to progress he’ll slot into the team’s rotation early next week, but a backdated stint on the injured list remains a possibility if it continues to linger.

Alek Manoah

TOR Starting Pitcher #6

Alex Manoah (elbow) is scheduled to make his next minor league rehab start at High-A Dunedin on Sunday.

The 27-year-old right-hander continues to progress nicely in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. He threw 22 pitches his last time out in a Florida Complex League on Monday, so expect him to extend that a bit further during Sunday’s outing. He could be an option to join the Jays’ rotation at some point in August barring any setbacks.

Daulton Varsho

TOR Center Fielder #5

Daulton Varsho (hamstring) is scheduled to play in the outfield at High-A Dunedin on Friday evening.

The Jays want to get Varsho somewhere between three-to-five innings in the outfield on Friday night as they continue to ease him back into game action. He’s expected to remain at Dunedin through the weekend before moving his rehab assignment to Triple-A Buffalo next week. It remains to be seen just how many games he’ll require before he’s ready to rejoin the Jays.

Bowden Francis

TOR Relief Pitcher #44

Bowden Francis (shoulder) has been shut down from throwing after suffering a setback.

The 29-year-old hurler felt a “bit cranky shoulder-wise” according to manager John Schneider, so the team will back off of him for the next 10 days in an effort to get that to calm down. It sounds like he may be facing a lengthy absence here, as even when he is cleared to resume throwing it’s going to take a while for Francis to build back up.

Ryan Burr

TOR Relief Pitcher #43

Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider told reporters on Friday that right-hander Ryan Burr will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

The expectation had already been that Burr would miss the remainder of the season due to his right rotator cuff strain after he was placed directly on the 60-day injured list last week, but now it’s official. No timetable from the Jays yet on how long his recovery will take.

Max Kranick

NYM Starting Pitcher #32

Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed Friday that right-hander Max Kranick will require Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.

It will unfortunately be the second time in three years that the 27-year-old hurler will require the procedure. He’ll miss the remainder of the 2025 season and the majority of the 2026 campaign as well while recovering from the procedure.

Dylan Crews

WSH Right Fielder #3

Nationals interim manager Miguel Cairo told reporters Friday that Crews (oblique) is getting closer to a rehab assignment.

Crews has been out of action since the middle of May with a left oblique strain, and it’s unlikely this will be a short rehab stint for the 23-year-old. Still, it’s a positive sign that one of the top young outfield talents in baseball is getting closer to a return. His numbers before the injury were less-than-desirable, but there’s enormous upside in Crews’ right-handed bat.
