Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young told reporters Tyler Mahle has been diagnosed with a rotator cuff strain and will be sidelined until after the trade deadline.

Mahle will be shut down from throwing for at least two weeks and has not been recommended for surgery. The 30-year-old righty hit the injured list earlier this month with shoulder soreness and won’t make it back to Texas’ rotation until after the trade deadline in late July, according to Young. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until sometime in August considering he’ll need a few rehab outings to build up his pitch count and stamina before returning.

Nolan Arenado

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the Athletics had a deal in place to acquire Nolan Arenado from the Cardinals.

Arenado was ultimately traded to the Diamondbacks, which is where he told the Cardinals preferred to play, but the Athletics “would have absorbed more money than the Diamondbacks.” While the Athletics could still pursue options like Eugenio Suarez and Yoan Moncada, Rosenthal reports that they “intend to use Max Muncy at third base, with Brett Harris and Darell Hernaiz also in the mix.”

Phillies designated OF Weston Wilson for assignment

With J.T. Realmuto’s contract becoming official, the Phillies needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, so Wilson was let go. The 31-year-old hit .198/.282/.369 in 125 plate appearances with the Phillies in 2025. He has historically produced better and is strong against left-handed pitching, so he could find a spot somewhere else as a bench bat.

J.T. Realmuto

PHI Catcher #10

Phillies signed C J.T. Realmuto to a three-year, $45 million deal.

The deal was announced over the weekend and is now official. The veteran will be 35 next year and is coming off a season in which he hit .257/.315/.384 with 12 home runs and 8 steals. He remains an elite defensive catcher and a rock-solid presence in the Phillies’ lineup. He has experienced a minor regression offensively and no longer seems likely to push for 15+ steals in a season, which makes him more of a fringe top 10 catcher for fantasy leagues.

Zach Penrod

WSH Relief Pitcher #67

Nationals signed LHP Zach Penrod to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Penrod pitched his way to the majors in 2024, making seven appearances out of the Boston bullpen, but he was a mess last year, finishing with a 7.83 ERA in six starts and 20 relief appearances in the minors for the Red Sox and Dodgers. He walked a total of 67 batters in 33 1/3 innings. He’ll almost certainly have to prove something in Triple-A before getting another chance.

Seth Brown

NYY 1st Baseman #15

Yankees signed 1B/OF Seth Brown to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Brown was sent to the minors early in 2025 and played 35 games in Triple-A for the Athletics and Diamondbacks, hitting .352/.416/.697 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI. He has a career .226/.292/.419 slash line with a 27.5 percent strikeout rate in 568 career MLB games. He has a nearly 43 percent career pull rate as a left-handed hitter and could be a good fit in Yankee Stadium.

Zac Gallen

Bruce Levine reports that the Cubs are in “ongoing” talks with Zac Gallen.

Levine reports that “it’ll be a shorter-term type of deal,” which makes sense considering Gallen posted a poor 4.83 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 175/66 K/BB ratio across 192 innings over 33 starts for the Diamondbacks last season. He may view this as an opportunity to recoup some value and sign a longer deal for more money, as he will be just 30 years old during the upcoming season.

Miguel Andujar

FA Left Fielder #38
MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports that Miguel Andujar is drawing “significant interest” on the free agent market.

Andujar had a strong season, split between playing for the Athletics and Reds. He hit .318/.352/.470 with 10 home runs in 94 games due to injury. Now, he was playing in arguably the two most hitter-friendly stadiums in baseball, but he also showed flashes of success in 2024 with Oakland. Heyman has said teams like the Rangers, Padres, Cardinals, and Cubs have expressed interest.

Jorge Mateo

ATL Shortstop #3

Braves signed INF Jorge Mateo to a one-year, $1 million deal.

The Braves were forced to pivot after presumed starting shortstop Ha-Seong Kim tore a ligament in his hand while falling on ice. Mateo was that quick pivot. The 30-year-old hit just .177 in 79 at-bats for the Orioles in 2025. He still remains a plus baserunner, but his defense at shortstop has also regressed over the last few seasons, so it’s hard to get too excited about this from a fantasy perspective.

Jadher Areinamo

TB Shortstop #80

Rays 2B prospect Jadher Areinamo won Rookie of the Year in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

Areinamo was shut down after just 36 games in the winter season, but that was more than enough time to impress. The 22-year-old hit .364/.420/.692 with 13 home runs, 43 RBI, and five steals. He was acquired from the Brewers at the deadline last year for Danny Jansen. This has the makings of a great return after Areinamo also impressed in 131 games split between High-A and Double-A last year.

Jakob Junis

FA Relief Pitcher #16
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Rangers and free agent right-hander Jakob Junis have reached an agreement on a one-year, $4 million contract.

The 33-year-old hurler played a pivotal role in the Guardians’ bullpen in 2025, registering a strong 2.97 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and a 55/18 K/BB ratio across 66 2/3 innings in 57 appearances. The expectation is that he’ll once again function in a middle relief role with the Rangers, which limits his overall appeal from a fantasy perspective.
