Kodai Senga went 3 2/3 innings while giving up four runs — three earned — for Double-A Binghamton in a rehab start.
Senga did get up to 68 pitches, and that’s probably more important than the line. He walked a pair with four strikeouts as he works his way back from the hamstring ailment that has sidelined him since the middle of June. Senga may need one more rehab start, but he should be back shortly after the All-Star break if there’s no setback.

Nationals placed RHP Trevor Williams on the 60-day injured list.
Williams is still in the process of recovering from an internal brace procedure that he underwent in July and will miss at least the first month or two of the 2026 season. By placing him on the 60-day injured list, the club freed up a spot on their 40-man roster for the addition of Andre Granillo on Tuesday.

  • Cardinals acquired RHP George Soriano from the Nationals for RHP Andre Granillo.
Hopefully this ends the carousel ride that Soriano has been on this winter — going from the Marlins, to the Orioles, to the Braves, to the Nationals and now to the Cardinals as spring training begins. The 26-year-old hurler should be able to secure a middle relief role in the Cardinals’ Opening Day bullpen with a strong showing in Grapefruit League action.

Nationals acquired RHP Andre Granillo from the Cardinals for RHP George Soriano.
The Nationals designated Soriano for assignment last week so they were content to flip him for anything that they could get at this stage. Granillo, 25, has compiled a 4.71 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and an 18/7 K/BB ratio over 21 innings in 14 appearances to begin his big league career. He’ll add bullpen depth for the Nationals.
  • DET Left Fielder #29
Tigers signed OF Austin Slater to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
It’s a bit surprising that Slater ultimately had to settle for a minor league deal, though he should have a decent shot at cracking the Tigers’ left-handed heavy Opening Day roster. The 33-year-old hit just .216/.270/.372 with five homers and 13 RBI in 160 plate appearances between the White Sox and Yankees in 2025.
  • CIN Catcher #37
Tyler Stephenson won his arbitration case against the Reds and will make $6.8 million in 2026.
Stephenson had been projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $6.4 million via arbitration. The Reds had filed at $6.55 million, so rather than hashing it out and meeting in the middle, they took it to the panel and Stephenson came out on top. The 29-year-old backstop slashed a disappointing .231/.316/.421 with 13 long balls and 50 RBI in 342 plate appearances during the 2025 season.
  • FA Left Fielder #29
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Tigers have signed free agent outfielder Austin Slater.
No word yet on the financial terms of the contract, but it’s expected to be a one-year deal. Heyman notes that Slater had discussions with the Yankees as well but ultimately chose the Tigers instead. The 33-year-old lefty masher nicely compliments the plethora of left-handed bats that the Tigers currently have on their roster.

Mets’ president of baseball operations David Stearns told reporters on Tuesday that Francisco Lindor could require surgery for a stress reaction in his left hamate bone.
If he was forced to go under the knife, Lindor would need around six weeks of recovery time. The superstar shortstop said that he’s confident that even if he did have the procedure done that he would be ready for the start of the regular season. Keep in mind though, historically, players who have had issues with their hamate bone have experienced a decline in their power output, at least initially.

Mets placed RHP Reed Garrett on the 60-day injured list.
This move was inevitable as Garrett underwent Tommy John surgery in October and will miss the entirety of the 2026 season. This was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Mets’ 40-man roster for the addition of Bryan Hudson on Tuesday.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #60
Mets acquired LHP Bryan Hudon from the White Sox for cash considerations.
With AJ Minter (lat) expected to open the season on the injured list, the Mets wanted to add second capable left-hander to their bullpen mix to work alongside Brooks Raley. Hudson will get the chance to compete for that job with Joe Jacques and Anderson Severino during spring training.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #35
Tigers signed RHP Justin Verlander to a one-year, $13 million contract.
The 42-year-old future Hall of Famer returns to the organization that made him the second overall pick in the draft way back in 2004. Verlander spent the first 12 and a half seasons of his big league career with the Tigers before being shipped to the Astros in a deadline deal in 2017. He’s still 34 victories away from 300 for his career, a milestone that Verlander wants to achieve before he retires. He adds quality depth to the back end of what’s shaping up to be a fearsome Tigers’ rotation.
