Alex Call knocked in three runs with a homer, a single and a groundout after replacing an injured Jacob Young against the Twins on Saturday.
Going from Young to Call is a nice upgrade offensively for the Nationals, though it comes at the cost of some defense. It sounds like Young will avoid the IL, so Call figures to remain in his fourth outfielder role. The Nationals might get some calls about him before the deadline; he’s a useful player currently making the minimum, so they don’t need to move him. However, since he is 30 and about to hit arbitration next year, they’d probably be open to the possibility. He’s currently batting .275/.372/.392 in 228 plate appearances.
