Christian Yelich (groin) took on-field batting practice on Monday.

Yelich isn’t expected to make it back from a left groin strain until some point in mid-to-late May. However, this qualifies as a significant milestone in his rehabilitation process. The 34-year-old is likely to get a couple minor league contests under his belt before returning to Milwaukee’s lineup sometime around mid-May.

White Sox signed OF Randal Grichuk to a one-year, $1.25 million contract.

Grichuk heads to the Windy City shortly after being jettisoned by the Yankees last week. The 34-year-old will replace an injured Austin Hays (calf) on Chicago’s roster. He’ll operate in a lefty-mashing bench role moving forward.

CWS Left Fielder #21

White Sox placed OF Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 2, with a left calf strain.

Hays has been snake-bitten by injuries as he heads to the shelf for the second time already this season. The 30-year-old outfielder missed time last month with a hamstring strain. No word yet on the severity of the calf issue, which is likely to keep him out for a couple weeks, even in a best-case scenario.

The paperwork move frees up a spot on Chicago’s 40-man roster for Randal Grichuk. Murray is expected to miss 4-6 months after undergoing shoulder surgery last week.

Stewart gets the nod at the keystone over Matt McLain for the second time in the last three games. The 22-year-old rookie is up to four appearances there already this season. Stewart gaining some additional positional versatility would be an added bonus for fantasy managers given how well he’s performed already this season.

Chase DeLauter is on the bench for Monday’s series opener against the Royals.

It qualifies as a surprise to see DeLauter on the bench against veteran righty Michael Wacha, but he gets a break after six consecutive starts between DH and right field. The 24-year-old rookie went deep for the first time since April 3 during Sunday’s loss to the Athletics.

Braves activated C Sean Murphy from the 10-day injured list.

Murphy returns to Atlanta’s catching mix after missing nearly six weeks at the start of the year recovering from hip surgery. He’ll likely wind up catching more than originally anticipated entering the season since the Braves want to keep Drake Baldwin at DH as much as possible. Still, Murphy can be ignored in shallow fantasy leagues at this stage of his career.

There’s no longer a role for Heim with Atlanta now that Sean Murphy is back from the injured list. The 30-year-old backstop departs after going 2-for-5 with a homer and five RBI during Sunday’s slugfest at Coors Field. He went 9-for-39) with one homer and eight RBI in 12 games with the club.
