The switch-hitting Fitz-Gerald, a teammate of Roman Anthony in high school in Florida, missed the end of last season but impressed with a .318/.423/.542 line in 31 games in Rookie ball. He opened the season sharing time between second, third and short, but the Rangers had committed to him at short just before injury struck. Between 2025 first-rounders Eli Willits and Gavin Fien and 2024 picks Seaver King (10th overall), Luke Dickerson (second round) and Fitz-Gerald, the Nationals are truly loaded with infield prospects, though none figure to contribute this year.

He was denied the win after the bullpen faltered in the late innings. Kirby allowed just five hits — all of them singles — while walking one and striking out three. It was a nice bounceback outing for Kirby after he was crushed for seven runs, including four homers, in his last outing against the Rangers. He lowered his ERA to 3.76 with the win, and barring a last-minute trade, he lines up to face the Rays in his next start on Saturday.

He gave up seven hits in all while walking four. Bradley put himself in an immediate hole by giving up a two-run double to Josh Naylor in the first inning. Despite the number of baserunners, he managed to hold the Mariners to just one run the rest of the way. After striking out 10 batters in his last outing, Bradley recorded a season-low two strikeouts in this one. He’ll try to get back in the win column next weekend against the Brewers.

Muñoz surrendered a leadoff opposite-field homer to Luke Keaschall which just sneaked over the right field fence. He would go on to give up a single and a walk to push the go-ahead run into scoring position, but struck out Josh Bell and got Kody Clemens on a fly out to escape further damage. This was Muñoz’s first blown save since way back on June 7 against the Tigers. Meanwhile, the home run was the first he’s given up since May 26. There’s no cause for concern here.

The Mariners would go on to lose in the bottom of the ninth, but it was another good day for Keaschall, who has now homered in back-to-back games. The 23-year-old is hitting .333 since the start of July.

The Twins made things interesting in the late innings, as Lewis’ three-run shot in the eighth brought Minnesota within one run. Luke Keaschall tied things up with a home run of his own in the ninth inning before the Mariners walked it off for the second straight day. Lewis now has a modest eight-game hitting streak going, though this is his first multi-hit game during this stretch.

Poulin’s move is a procedural move to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for recently-acquired Yovanny Cruz. The 29-year-old southpaw cannot return from the injured list until September 16 with this placement.

Cebert is the top prospect who is headed to Washington in the Luis García Jr. trade, as he ranks 11th in Baseball America’s list of top Yankees’ prospects prior to the trade. He had. The right-hander has four pitches, and two of those have a chance to be plus in his slider and a fastball that has been clocked up to 98 mph. He’s probably closer to mid-rotation arm than future ace, but he has a chance to contribute to the Nationals’ rotation before the end of 2027.

Grable has been exceptional in the minors this year with a 2.45 ERA and 56/10 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 frames while reaching Double-A. The right-hander has a high 90 mph fastball and a plus slider, and he throws both pitches for strikes. He looks ready for the majors, and it wouldn’t be a shock if he joined the Nationals’ bullpen before the end of 2026. If not, he seems very likely to be ready for 2027.

Bird, 30 was optioned to Triple-A after the trade. The right-hander has a chance to help the woeful Nationals’ bullpen, but it’s likely just in a middle-inning role.

Cruz is going to join the Nationals’ bullpen, with the other four players acquired going to the minors. The 26-year-old right-hander has shown intriguing stuff in his limited time in the majors, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was immediately a high-leverage option for the Nationals. He’s worth a flyer for anyone looking for saves over the final seven weeks.
