The New York Post’s Jon Heyman adds that Pérez will earn $1.9 million with $700,000 in additional incentives if he makes Washington’s roster. The 29-year-old southpaw struggled this past season, spending most of it at the Triple-A level but was a mainstay in Baltimore’s relief mix during each of the previous three seasons dating back to 2022. He represents an interesting low-risk addition for the rebuilding Nationals as a middle relief option.

After a scoreless first inning, Perkins gave up a pair of solo homers to Josh Smith and Kazuma Okamoto in the second. He settled in for three more scoreless frames before giving up two base hits to start the sixth. That would do it for Perkins at 85 pitches. Both inherited runners would come around to score. He ends the day with a 6.53 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and a 119/47 K/BB ratio across 103 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old right-hander will take on the Rays in Tampa Bay next Tuesday.

Eldridge put the Giants on the board right away, taking left-hander Quinn Matthews deep for a solo homer in the first inning. The home run ended a ten-game home run skid for the 21-year-old slugger. He’s up to 16 this season with 49 RBI while slashing .265/.361/.458 across 416 plate appearances.

Kuhnel was summoned in the eighth inning with two outs and the bases loaded to protect a two-run lead. He got out of the jam with a flyout, then returned for the ninth and gave up a run on two hits before holding on for his seventh save, first with the Giants.

Roupp was excellent against the Cardinals at Oracle Park on Tuesday, holding them scoreless over six frames. He was able to strand four walks by giving up only two hits. He also collected two strikeouts. The 27-year-old right-hander ends the day with a respectable 4.00 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 139/72 K/BB ratio across 150 2/3 innings. He’ll take on the Cardinals again in a rematch in St. Louis next Tuesday.

Mathews got tagged for a solo homer by Bryce Eldridge in the first inning. Christian Koss then took him deep for a solo shot in the second. The two runs would be all he allowed as he completed six innings for the first time in his career, logging his first quality start. He scattered three other hits and two walks while striking out four. The 25-year-old left-hander will take a 4.11 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 28/14 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings into a start against the same Giants in St. Louis on Monday.

Machado drew a walk in the fourth inning, then led off the seventh with a base hit before scoring on a sacrifice fly. He later came through in a big spot for the Padres in the eighth, driving in two runs on a base hit to tie the game before coming around to score. The 34-year-old third baseman is hitting .226/.314/.418 with 26 homers, 75 runs scored, and 80 RBI across 602 plate appearances.

Making his first start in the last four games, Morales got the scoring started for the Nationals, taking Casey Mize deep for a solo homer in the second inning. It was the second home run in his first four career games after hitting 25 in Triple-A this season. He’s currently splitting first base and designated hitter duties in a short-side platoon, but offers excellent power upside if he’s given the chance to be an everyday regular.

Adrian Morejon was summoned in the top of the ninth inning to close out the game against the Nationals with a one-run lead. Mason Miller was given the night off after pitching in three of the last four games. Morejon made quick work of the Nats, pitching a clean inning with one strikeout for his third save of the season.

Mize surrendered a solo homer to Yohandy Morales in the second inning. That was the only run he had allowed through five solid frames before running into trouble in the sixth. He put two runners on with a double and a walk, then departed with two outs at 90 pitches. Both inherited runners would come in to score. The 29-year-old right-hander will take a 3.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 107/29 K/BB ratio across 119 1/3 innings into a start against the Rockies in Colorado on Monday.

Cornelio opened Tuesday’s contest against the Padres with three perfect frames on 36 pitches. He tossed 24 for strikes and collected four strikeouts before he was relieved on the mound in the fourth. The 26-year-old right-hander will likely revert to a long relief role out of the bullpen.
