Ian Seymour delivered a dazzling performance in Grapefruit League action against the Yankees on Friday night, punching out six batters over 3 1/3 innings of perfect baseball.
Seymour came on for Joe Boyle to start the fourth inning and all he did was retire all 10 hitters that he faced in order — including strikeouts of Max Schuemann, Trent Grisham, Ben Rice, Cody Bellinger, Paul DeJong and George Lombard Jr. It’s going to take at least one injury to open up a spot in the Rays’ rotation for Seymour, but he’ll be a very intriguing option for fantasy purposes if/when he does get that chance.

Zach McKinstry went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer against the Yankees on Thursday.
McKinstry hit out a Will Warren sweeper to raise his spring OPS to .929 in 17 at-bats. He figures to be a super-sub again and should see plenty of time at both third base and shortstop, as he did in 2025.
Ohtani, Judge shining in WBC amid peak of careers
Dan Le Batard reflects on the days of United States-Japan exhibition games before debating Shohei Ohtani vs. Aaron Judge and the World Baseball Classic's place among international competitions.
  • NYY Left Fielder #24
Jasson Dominguez went 1-for-3 with a homer against the Tigers on Thursday.
Dominguez was one of three Yankees to take Justin Verlander deep on Thursday, walloping a four-seamer some 431 feet. The Martian is up to a 1.010 OPS in spring ball with three homers and two steals, but doesn’t seem assured of major league playing time at this point with Randal Grichuk’s lefty-mashing skill set likely parking Dominguez in Triple A.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #98
Will Warren allowed two runs in six innings against the Tigers on Thursday.
He struck out just two, but also allowed only two hits and breezed through the game with just 64 pitches thrown. The fastball sat at 93.9 mph and he managed to get whiffs on 42 percent of swings against it. Warren now sits at a 1.65 ERA in four starts in big-league camp. He’ll have some early season runway before Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon return to the rotation, but we’re not overly optimistic he’ll be more than a streaming option unless we see continued steps forward with the arsenal.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #35
Justin Verlander gave up three solo home runs in 3 1/3 innings pitched against the Yankees on Thursday.
He struck out five and got six whiffs on 21 swings against his four-seamer and slider. The upper-echelon velocity is obviously gone, which leaves Verlander homer-prone, but he remains a credible back-end starter even if he’s not an exciting stream in fantasy leagues this year.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #45
Gerrit Cole threw a 35-pitch live bullpen session and told reporters he and the Yankees “will likely” discuss him pitching in a Spring Training game.
This is a great sign for Cole’s chances of coming back sooner rather than later, but the Yankees will likely be cautious with him and he will need to build up to be ready to pitch in the majors. Still, a late April or early May return sounds like what this is trending towards barring a setback.
  • PIT 2nd Baseman #81
Pirates reassigned IF Termarr Johnson, C Derek Berg, IF Nick Cimillio, LHP Nick Dombkowski, IF Duce Gourson, LHP Oddanier Mosqueda, OF Ronny Simon and IF Davis Wendzel to minor league camp.
Johnson was 7-for-19 in Spring Training with no homers or stolen bases, leaving him as a career .327/.411/.531 hitter in three years in big league camp. After hitting .272/.363/.382 for Double A Altoona last year as a 21-year-old, he’ll likely head to Triple-A Indianapolis in 2026.
  • CHC Center Fielder #1
Cubs optioned OF Justin Dean, LHP Luke Little and LHP Ryan Rolison to Triple-A Iowa; reassigned RHP Vince Velasquez, C Ariel Armas, C Casey Opitz, and OF Brett Bateman to minor league camp.
Dean was claimed off waivers twice this offseason after playing a bench role for the Dodgers in the World Series. He’ll provide bench help if called upon.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #56
Astros reassigned RHP Anthony Maldonado and RHP Michael Knorr to minor league camp.
Maldonado had a 2.84 ERA in 6.1 spring innings, but struck out just two batters. He’ll be an interesting depth piece for the Astros this year assuming he sticks around.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #53
Gunnar Hoglund is dealing with a back issue that will delay the start to his season.
The 26-year-old hasn’t pitched at all in Spring Training. It’s likely he’ll need to get ramped up before he’s ready to pitch in any role in the bigs, and he finished the 2025 season on IL with a hip impingement that required surgery. Hoglund stocks are cheap in 16-team AL dynasty leagues.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #16
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports Matthew Boyd has left Team USA and will return to Cubs camp.
Per Jesse Rogers, Boyd will start Chicago’s opener against the Nationals. The Cubs clearly want him to stay ramped up for that game. Boyd profiles as a top-50 starter this year and should be started with aplomb against what looks to be a dismantled Nationals offense.
