Stone is aiming to progress to throwing off a bullpen mound at some point within the next month. The 27-year-old will open the regular season on the injured list with shoulder inflammation but the positive news here is that additional testing didn’t reveal any structural damage and he’ll begin ramping up his throwing program in the coming weeks. It seems like he’s going to miss at least a few months, if not longer, to open the year.

The 35-year-old backstop has started behind the dish in each of the Phillies’ last five games, so he’ll get a breather in this one heading into the weekend. Garrett Stubbs will do the catching for the Phillies and will bat ninth against Mets’ right-hander Nolan McLean.

There haven’t been any rumblings of any physical issues, but this is the second time that Pasquantino has found himself on the bench in the last four games, so it’s possible that he’s battling through a minor injury. Salvador Perez will cover first base in his absence and will bat sixth against Astros’ righty Miguel Ullola.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 35-year-old slugger. LaMonte Wade Jr. will start in his place at first base and bat ninth for the Astros against Royals’ right-hander Seth Lugo on Thursday evening in Houston.

The 30-year-old right-hander has been shelved since early September due to inflammation in his right wrist. He’s only expected to need one or two outings there before he’s cleared to return to the Guardians’ bullpen. Before landing on the shelf, he had posted a stellar 2.73 ERA over 52 2/3 innings.

Montgomery did walk two batters, but he didn’t allow a hit and struck out two batters on his 29 pitches. Montgomery has not allowed a run since July 26th, which is now a 21 2/3 inning scoreless streak with a 36/6 K/BB ratio. He has a 2.67 ERA and 14th saves on the season and has become an elite, young closer.

Griffin came into today just 9-for-46 since coming back from a finger injury on September 4th. He had just two RBI combined in his previous 11 games with an 11/2 K/BB ratio, so this could be a good step in the right direction as the rookie looks to end the season on a high note.

Naylor drilled a solo home run in the eighth inning to get the Brewers within one run. He also accounted for another run on a fielder’s choice earlier in the game. The 26-year-old is hitting just .154/.214/.275 on the season, but he may get a few more starts down the stretch with the Brewers wanting to rest William Contreras more often ahead of the playoffs.

Urquidy can help cover for Jesús Luzardo’s absence, but he won’t be postseason eligible after getting picked up this late. He had a 4.37 ERA over 22 2/3 innings in six appearances for the White Sox. The Phillies moved Caleb Kilian to the 60-day IL to open up a spot on the 40-man for him, and they’ll need to send someone down once he reports to the team.

It sounded like Kilian might make it back during the regular season, but this rules it out. He’s been out since suffering an oblique strain on Aug. 9.

Harrison didn’t allow a run in the first inning, despite giving up a double to Bryan Reynolds, and then got the first two outs in the second before things unraveled. He gave up a walk, an infield single, and a catcher’s interference, and then the wheels really fell off. He gave up atwo-run double, an RBI single, then hit a batter, walked a batter, and hit another batter before being removed from the game. He threw just 58 percent of his pitches for strikes and posted a 10 percent swinging strike rate. In his last four outings, Harrison has allowed 21 earned runs on 27 hits in nine innings. The Brewers may need to make other postseason plans.
