Nationals optioned C Harry Ford to Triple-A Rochester; reassigned C Riley Adams to minor league camp.

Ford didn’t help his chances of making the Nationals by going to play for Great Britain in the WBC, but his bigger problem is that Keibert Ruiz has had a nice spring to date. The Nationals weren’t going to keep the 23-year-old Ford as a backup to Ruiz, so he’ll have to wait and see what happens once the games start counting. With Adams also being dropped, it’s clear that Drew Millas will serve as Ruiz’s backup.

Royals placed INF Maikel Garcia on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

Garcia, who had just returned from the injured list on Monday, suffered a hamstring strain while running the bases in the first inning on Thursday night. It’s a brutal blow for the Royals and for fantasy managers who had been holding onto him with the hope that he’d be able to make a major impact down the stretch. Matthew Lugo was recalled from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move on Friday.

Blue Jays optioned LHP Brendan Cellucci to Triple-A Buffalo.

Cellucci was just promoted from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, but he’ll head right back there to clear a spot on their active roster for the return of Spencer Arrighetti (foot) on Friday. The 28-year-old southpaw did not make an appearance out of the bullpen during his brief stay with the Jays, so his MLB debut will have to wait.
