Reds optioned RHP Luis Mey to Triple-A Louisville.

Mey has struggled to an inflated 11.57 ERA across seven innings this spring. The flame-throwing 24-year-old will open the regular season back in the minors but should make his way to Cincinnati before too long. He’s made 13 relief appearances for the Reds over the past two years.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Ketel Marte is dealing with a personal issue.

Lovullo added that they’re trying to figure out the situation after Marte failed to show up to Fenway Park for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox and was placed on the restricted list. It’s unclear how much time Marte is going to miss at the moment, but it doesn’t sound like his return is imminent, which means fantasy managers should brace for the possibility that his absence stretches beyond a few days. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point in the coming days.

Kevin McGonigle went 2-for-6 with two runs scored and a two-run home run against the Pirates on Monday.

McGonigle’s home run was his 13th of the year. He hit a two-run shot off Carmen Mlodzinski in the second inning. McGonigle now has three home runs and 11 RBI in 15 games in August after hitting four home runs with nine RBI in 23 games in July. He’s hitting .282 with an .810 OPS and 50 RBI this season.

Mets signed INF Andy Ibáñez to a minor league contract.

Ibáñez heads to Triple-A Tacoma as emergency organizational depth for Seattle after being released by the Mets last week. The 33-year-old veteran infielder hasn’t appeared in the majors since getting into three games for New York back in May.

Kenley Jansen tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Pirates on Monday.

Jansen’s save was his 16th of the season. He retired the side in order while recording two strikeouts. It was career save No. 492 for Jansen, who has allowed only two runs in his last 14 appearances (1.37 ERA). He has a 3.74 ERA on the year.

Carmen Mlodzinski allowed four runs in three innings and took the loss against the Tigers on Monday.

Mlodzinski gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out three. The 27-year-old right-hander was pretty good as a starting pitcher earlier this season, but in this most recent stint in the rotation he’s allowed 13 earned runs in 8 1/3 innings over three starts (14.44 ERA). Mlodzinski has thrown 63, 59 and 59 pitches in those starts, making it hard to see him working deep into games until the Pirates allow for a higher pitch count. Mlodzinski is lined up to face the Dodgers on the road on Sunday.

Framber Valdez allowed five runs (four earned) in 5 2/3 innings and got the win in the Tigers’ 8-5 victory over the Pirates on Monday.

Valdez gave up five hits, walked four and struck out five. He improved to 8-8 on the season. One unearned run scored in the fifth inning on a throwing error by second baseman Hao-Yu Lee. With one on and two outs in the sixth inning, Valdez issued back-to-back walks and a bases-clearing double to Nick Yorke, who also scored after Valdez was removed from the game. Valdez has a 4.35 ERA in what has mostly been a disappointing first season with the Tigers. He’s lined up to face the Royals on the road on Sunday.

Nolan McLean allowed just one run over six innings for the victory Monday as the Mets edged the Padres 2-1.

McLean didn’t really deserve this win, but he can thank his outfielders. Carson Benge threw runners out at home on back-to-back singles in the first inning, and then A.J. Ewing cut down Xander Bogaerts at home in the second. That sequence saw seven consecutive batters reach base against McLean over the two innings, but just one run scored. McLean cleaned it up from there, allowing just one single and two walks over the remaining four innings. He’s now 9-8 with a 3.34 ERA, and he’s due to face the White Sox next.

Daniel Duarte pitched a perfect ninth with a one-run lead, striking out two, in earning his second save Monday against the Padres.

Kodai Senga was given the night off after working two of the previous three days. Duarte, on the other hand, was allowed to make it three out of four days. He should rest Tuesday, with Senga likely back available for the ninth.

Walker Buehler lost to the Mets after allowing two runs in six innings on Monday.

Buehler has completed six innings in back-to-back starts for the first time this year. This goes as his first loss since July 6, but he did his job while allowing just two hits and two walks. Buehler is due to face the Twins on Sunday. Joe Musgrove should be back after that, leaving the Padres with a decision to make on who to bounce from the rotation. Buehler probably has an edge over Randy Vásquez at this point.

Ketel Marte is away from the club dealing with personal matters, reports Francys Romero of Beisbol FR.

Romero adds that Marte, who was placed on the restricted list by the Diamondbacks after failing to show up to Fenway Park for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox, doesn’t have an estimated return date at the moment. It’s a complicated situation and fantasy managers should brace for the possibility that Marte is away from the club for an extended period. There should be a definitive update from the Diamondbacks on his status relatively soon.
