Cole Henry, who was likely in line to close for the Nationals on Opening Day, mopped up with a scoreless eighth in Saturday’s 10-2 loss to the Cubs.

Henry ended up not pitching Thursday after the Nationals upped their lead to six runs in the ninth. At this point, the Nationals likely just wanted to get him some work, and he had an easy 11-pitch inning against the Cubs, striking out one. That should keep him available to pitch Sunday, and we’ll again have to wait and see what the Nationals do if they have a late lead.

Nick Lodolo (blister) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Lodolo hit the injured list with a blister on his left index finger just prior to the All-Star break. The Reds are going to approach his situation with caution to avoid a potential setback. It’s unclear whether he’ll need a rehab start, but there’s a chance he’s ready to jump back into Cincinnati’s rotation at some point in early August.

Eric Samulski debriefs Bobby Witt Jr. leaving the game against the Giants on Monday with a recurring lower back issue and whether the struggling Royals should continue to let him play with the nagging injury.

Kerry Carpenter (heel) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Cubs.

Carpenter has been scuffling at the dish recently and has also been playing through a bruised heel that caused him to make an early exit from Monday’s series opener. The hope for the Tigers is that the extra time off puts the issue to bed.

A.J. Ewing is in left field and hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Brewers.

Mets interim manager Andy Green said earlier this week that Ewing will shuffle between a couple outfield spots since he has experience doing that recently with Luis Robert Jr. handling center field exclusively now that he’s back from the injured list. The 21-year-old rookie has been an impactful fantasy contributor right out of the gate this season, hitting .271/.343/.425 with seven homers and 10 steals in 241 plate appearances across 61 games.

Tuesday’s game between the Orioles and Red Sox was postponed due to inclement weather.

It’s been pouring in Boston for most of the afternoon and the decision was made not to take any chances. It’ll be made up as a doubleheader on Wednesday instead. There’s a chance that Ranger Suarez (groin) will be activated to take the ball during the twin bill, but that isn’t official yet. It was going to be Eduardo Rivera starting on Tuesday night in his place. Orioles starter Kyle Bradish will be pushed back to the doubleheader.

Corbin Carroll (elbow) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Athletics.

It’s an encouraging development for Arizona, and fantasy managers, following Carroll’s absence from Monday’s series opener after hyperextending his right elbow on a swing over the weekend. The 25-year-old franchise cornerstone is hitting .250/.344/.480 with 55 runs scored, 14 home runs, 47 RBI and 10 steals across 410 plate appearances through 96 games.

Diamondbacks recalled LHP Kohl Drake from Triple-A Reno.

Drake will make his major-league debut with a start against the Athletics on Tuesday at Chase Field. The 26-year-old lefty was up briefly last month, but didn’t get into a game for Arizona. He doesn’t offer a ton of strikeout upside, which makes him a risky streaming option for fantasy managers right out of the gate.

Burgos retreats to the minors after tossing 1 1/3 scoreless frames during Monday’s game against the Athletics. The 26-year-old has made a pair of appearances for the Diamondbacks this season.

Dodgers selected the contract of LHP Charlie Barnes from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Barnes provides Los Angeles with some additional long relief depth heading into the final two games of a road series against the Phillies. The 30-year-old southpaw has allowed 11 runs over 12 innings in the big leagues this season. He can be ignored in all fantasy formats.

Knack heads back to the minors after allowing two runs over two innings in relief against the Phillies on Monday night. The 29-year-old former prospect has made a pair of appearances in the big leagues this season.

Dodgers transferred C Will Smith to the 60-day injured list.

It’s merely a procedural move as Smith is still without a return timetable and remains shut down from baseball activities due to an ongoing neck issue. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has reiterated multiple times that they expect their franchise backstop to return this year, but they’ve declined to offer any additional details. The 31-year-olds has been out with neck inflammation since June 11.
