Hinch said, “I don’t think [Verlander’s] taking a step forward, and he hasn’t taken a step back.” That’s not really confidence-inducing. Verlander is 43 years old, so it makes sense that he might not bounce back as quickly as he did 20 years ago. Given that his performance on the field has also been inconsistent, this seems like a situation the Tigers won’t rush, and fantasy managers should avoid.

It was far from a clean outing for Dominguez, which has been more common than not over the first half of the season for the 31-year-old. He issued a pair of walks, and he allowed an RBI double by Alex Freeland to cut the Dodgers’ lead to 6-4. He was able to keep Los Angeles off the board from that point on, however, and he was able to procure his 12th save of 2026.

Rodriguez was in clear pain after hitting Cedric Mullins with a pitch, and exited with a trainer. He’ll likely undergo imaging before determining the severity of the injury. Rodriguez has really struggled in his first year with the Angels, and unfortunately, injuries have been a significant story in his MLB career.

Myers has been in the minors since the end of May. The right-hander wasn’t abhorrent prior to that demotion with a 4.05 ERA and 26/7 K/BB, but he’d be a very risky fantasy streamer considering his inability to miss bats and the potential for a shorter outing against Cincinnati on Monday.

Kolek walked one and lowered his ERA to 2.68 through eight starts. He has been even better over his past six with a 1.59 ERA since May 17. Kolek’s strikeout rate doesn’t pop, but he generates grounders and limits walks, a formula that can work for longer than ERA estimators indicate. It’s been a very valuable stretch in deeper fantasy leagues where quality pitching is scarce, but managers shouldn’t expect these results every time out. Kolek has another test in his next start against the Cardinals.

Arrighetti managed to strike out seven in the defeat, and he’s now been tagged for 11 runs over his past three starts. He had begun this season by allowing two earned runs or fewer in each of his first eight outings, so much of this is natural regression. He’ll carry a 2.57 ERA into a home start versus the Guardians next time out.

The two thefts make Witt the new league leader, one ahead of Nasim Nuñez and two ahead of José Ramírez. J-Ram will miss time, and the next-highest total is 21, so Witt has a chance to run away with the stolen base title if he’s up for it. The superstar shortstop entered Sunday with a 4.6% stolen base attempt rate, well above the clip he’s run at the past two years. It isn’t as high as the 5.5% mark he had in 2023, but Witt’s superior on-base skills are giving him more total opportunities compared to that year. He could be headed for the first 50-steal season of his career after topping out at 49 in 2023.

It’s a strong performance after Garcia has been slumping. He sits at three homers and five thefts on the year after finishing with 16 and 23, respectively, a season ago. Injuries have played a role, but Garcia’s batted-ball results have taken a hit following what appeared to be a breakout campaign last year. The good news is his contact skills have held steady. He’ll remain a lineup regular as the team visits the Nationals to begin a three-game set on Monday.

Durán’s second homer in two days was an impressive 432-foot blast off Rico Garcia. That’s 55 feet farther than he’s hit any of his other flyballs in 18 games as a major leaguer. Durán is 6-for-34 with three homers and seven walks since joining the Padres when Luis Campusano got hurt, and he’ll be the team’s starting catcher until Freddy Fermin returns from a concussion.

Buehler went without a walk today, dropping his walk rate to 7.7 percent of the season. That’s still slightly above his career average of 7.3 percent, but it’s a big improvement over his 10.8 percent from last season, and it’s helped him post an adequate 4.14 ERA even though he’s still not missing nearly as many bats as he used to. He’ll face the Rangers in Texas next weekend, making him a decent streaming choice.

Miller hadn’t pitched in five days, so the Padres felt comfortable asking for an extra out from him today, though they had to delay the game for a couple of minutes to make sure he had enough warmup throws. It’s Miller’s fourth consecutive hitless outing. He’s thrown exactly 30 innings with three earned runs allowed and 59 strikeouts this season.
