Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters Duran is feeling much better and was able to resume throwing for the first time since hitting the injured list with an oblique strain over the weekend. The 28-year-old closer is likely facing a multi-week recovery timeline, but it doesn’t sound like he’s dealing with a high-grade strain that would’ve led to a much longer absence. It’ll likely be Brad Keller handling the closing duties while he’s on the shelf.

He’s started just three of Milwaukee’s last six games while David Hamilton has appeared to take a step over him on the depth chart. Luis Rengifo is starting at third today while Hamilton slides over to short. Ortiz is hitting .197/.284/.197 on the season with four stolen bases. He is 4-for-29 over his last 15 games.

Alvarez, who has hit third three times and fourth once in the last four games, continues to lose playing time due to Juan Soto being confined to DH duties for the time being. Luis Torrens is starting against RHP Miles Mikolas and the Nationals. Alvarez has slumped badly of late, with just three hits since April 18. His OPS is down from .894 to .691 since then.

Mickey Moniak is not in Colorado’s starting lineup against the Reds on Thursday.

It is against LHP Andrew Abbott, and while the Rockies haven’t strictly platooned Moniak against left-handers, they did drop him to ninth in the order against Brandon Williamson yesterday. On the season, Moniak is hitting .361/.413/.736 against right-handers and .067/.067/.267 against lefties. He probably would be platooned more aggressively on a team with better options.

Alec Bohm is not in the starting lineup for Philadelphia’s first game of a doubleheader against the Giants.

Weird to finally get him a rest coming off a rare two-hit effort, but Edmundo Sosa will slide in against RHP Logan Webb in the first game of the doubleheader. Bohm had been hitting .128/.205/.179 as of April 21, but over the past week or so has boosted his overall line to .157/.228/.216. Baby steps.

Drew Gilbert is not in the starting lineup for game one of San Francisco’s doubleheader with the Phillies.

He had started the five previous games, but he’ll grab a little rest ahead of game two of the doubleheader with Jerar Encarnacion taking his first start in six days. Gilbert’s off to a .243/.282/.405 start with two homers in his first 40 plate appearances. It’s about what you’d expect, as Gilbert showcased some power in his 39-game sample last year but also struggled with contact.

Samuel Basallo

BAL Catcher #29

Samuel Basallo is not in Baltimore’s starting lineup for game one of a doubleheader against the Astros.

He’ll likely catch the second game, with Adley Rutschman behind the plate in game one. Basallo is losing workload with Rutschman back, as he’s started four of the last six games. But as long as he keeps socking dingers — he enters play today with five in 87 plate appearances — he’ll continue to get plenty of playing time.
