Zach Plesac allowed four runs on six hits in four innings for Triple-A Memphis on Sunday.
The 30-year-old veteran struck out two and walked two on the day. He was making his first start with the Cardinals organization after pitching to a 2.84 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 33/16 K/BB ratio over 38 innings in the independent Atlantic League. He figures to serve as organizational depth this season.

Cardinals signed RHP Zach Plesac to a minor league contract.
The 30-year-old right-hander had been pitching for the Long Island Ducks in the independent Atlantic League where he posted a 2.84 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 33/16 K/BB ratio over 38 innings in his seven starts. He’ll add extra starting pitching depth at Triple-A Memphis.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #34
    Angels released RHP Zach Plesac.
Plesac was hit hard in three starts this season with the Angels after signing a one-year, $1 million pact back in January. The 29-year-old is probably going to have to settle for a minor league contract this offseason if he’s going to attempt to work his way back to the big leagues.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #34
Angels optioned RHP Zach Plesac to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Plesac had been cruising through Friday’s start against the Tigers, then suddenly forgot how to throw strikes with two outs in the third inning. He’ll continue to work through his issues at the Triple-A level. Andrew Wantz was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday to provide a fresh arm in the Angels’ bullpen.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #34
Zach Plesac went just 2 2/3 innings while giving up two runs in a no-decision against the Tigers on Friday.
Plesac couldn’t throw strikes — at least on a consistent basis — as he waked four batters and landing just 29-of-57 pitches in the zone. The right-hander just hasn’t shown quality command in his last two outings, and it’s hard to imagine he’ll be relevant for fantasy managers even if he stays in the rotation.

Zach Plesac was crushed for six runs over 3 1/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Yikes. The Dodgers jumped all over Plesac in the third inning as they struck for four runs in the frame before ultimately chasing him from the contest in the next inning. He surrendered a whopping seven hits, including a pair of homers, and only mustered one strikeout. The 29-year-old righty holds an ugly 8.68 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 2/3 K/BB ratio across 9 1/3 innings (two starts) this season in the majors. He can be ignored in all fantasy formats until further notice.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #75
Zach Plesac delivered a quality start in his return to the majors Monday, yielding three runs in six innings in a victory over the Brewers.
Plesac, an emergency starter because of José Soriano’s abdominal issue, succeeded while averaging just 89.9 mph with his fastball, striking out only one batter and giving up two homers tonight. The Angels might try to make it happen again, but fantasy leaguers should stay far away.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #59
José Soriano was scratched from his scheduled start Monday due to abdominal pain.
Zach Plesac will go right into the rotation and start after being called up this afternoon. Hopefully, this is an illness and not something else abdomen-related for Soriano. Then again, the only way he’s going to finish this season as a starter is if he does miss a chunk of time on the injured list.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #75
Angels selected the contract of RHP Zach Plesac from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Plesac’s 5.42 ERA and 51/26 K/BB ratio in 74 2/3 innings for Salt Lake don’t bode well for a successful return to the majors here. Still, he can eat innings, and the Angels might have some need for that this week.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #75
Angels sent RHP Zach Plesac outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Plesac predictably went unclaimed on waivers after being removed from Los Angeles’ 40-man roster earlier this week. The 29-year-old righty hasn’t pitched in the big leagues this season after signing a one-year, $1 million pact with the Angels back in January.
