Nothing has changed in the prognosis for Hodge, who will undergo season-ending surgery on his right elbow. This was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the addition of Nicky Lopez on Friday.

Caminero led off the sixth inning with a solo homer off Walker Buehler to tie the game. The home run ends a bit of a homer drought for Caminero, as he went 15 games without a home run going into Saturday. The 23-year-old slugger is slashing .280/.367/.533 with 36 homers, 83 runs scored, and 86 RBI across 588 plate appearances.

The 37-year-old righty allowed just two hits in the ballgame — both singles — while issuing four free passes. Kelly got 13 swings and misses on 100 pitches in the ballgame — six of those on his changeup — while registering a CSW of 30 percent. Now 9-12 on the season, he’ll look to further improve upon his 5.08 ERA and 1.48 WHIP when he takes on the Astros in Houston on Friday.

Aranda took Walker Buehler deep for a solo homer in the third inning. He’s slowed down a bit in the power department after slugging 14 homers in the first half. Saturday’s blast was just his third since the All-Star break. The 28-year-old first baseman is up to 17 with 63 runs scored and 79 RBI while hitting .279/.362/.424 across 574 plate appearances.

France knocked a base hit in the second inning, then later took Nick Martinez deep for a two-run blast in the sixth. The 32-year-old first baseman is having a solid season with the Padres, hitting .287/.356/.509 with 19 homers and 58 RBI across 400 plate appearances.

Baker was summoned in the top of the ninth to close out the game against the Padres with a one-run lead. He worked around one walk, striking out one batter to shut the door on San Diego for his MLB-leading 39th save.

Martinez held the Padres scoreless through two innings before a pair of hits put a run on the board for San Diego in the third. He’d toss two more scoreless frames, then gave up a two-run homer to Ty France in the sixth. The 36-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 91/22 K/BB ratio across 153 2/3 innings. He’ll take on the Rangers in Texas on Thursday.

Buehler surrendered a run to the Rays in the first inning on a double and a base hit. Jonathan Aranda then took him deep for a solo homer in the third inning. He later opened the sixth by giving up a solo homer to Junior Caminero. That would do it for Buehler at 71 pitches. He struck out three. The 32-year-old right-hander will take a 4.66 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and a 111/49 K/BB ratio across 131 1/3 innings into a start against the Yankees in San Diego next weekend.

Lee finally got the Giants on the board with an RBI single in the eighth inning, trimming their deficit to 5-1. He also drew a walk in the contest, reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances. On the season, the 28-year-old outfielder is now slashing .291/.331/.424 with nine homers, 48 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 501 plate appearances.

The 23-year-old southpaw struck out four batters in the contest while issuing a pair of walks. Wilkinson actually shut the Diamondbacks out through six innings but returned for the seventh where he issued a pair of walks before turning the ball over to the bullpen — then both inherited runners ultimately scored. Wilkinson has made three starts with the Giants this season, posting a 4.63 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 6/2 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings. He’ll head back to Triple-A Sacramento where he’ll continue to bide his time until another opening arises in the Giants’ rotation.

It’s not unusual to see clubs place expensive veterans on waivers at this time of year to see if anyone else would be willing to take on the remainder of their contract. The 29-year-old slugger has three million remaining on his contract for this season, plus a $20 million club option for the 2027 campaign with a $2 million buyout, so the claiming team would be taking on $5 million in salary if planning on declining the option.
